Why you would want to do that is your business i guess, but in Michigan you CAN "live off the land" as long as its state property, but you have to move your "home" something like 23 yard every 30-60 days, if your not caught, and you stay in the same place for 7 years you can be considered a squatter and my be able to obtain rights to that property...

not unless you can find some untaxable/free land. also consider all of your daily consumable's. you can't make everything you could ever need. you would have to live in a community which barters each others skills. just simpily farming can be a major undertaking without income.

The government has you nailed with the property tax. You would still have to have some monetary income to cover that, which of course negates your whole reason for going off-grid to begin with.

if you had the money. if you have money, you could almost do anything. you have to work though...or pay someone to work for you to be able to live off the land

Sure...if you also OWN the land you are living off of...you may not live on public land or land owned by someone else legally.

No, you couldn't. What would you eat? You would have to get something like fruit and stuff that would be on people's property. You would have to sleep somewhere that would be on someone's property. So you would have to steal and trespass, or if you slept under a bridge that is still illegal. For food you could eat wild berries, but what would you do in the winter? I don't see how it's possible.

If you own the land, of course you can.
But, you would have to pay taxes on the land you owned.
I "think" that there are mountains and deserts that you could live on legally, without owning.

Go to the Puna district on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is warm and their are a lot of poeple doing it. The government don't care

You would have a hard time of it, basicaly you would be homeless and constantly hassled to move on. If you mean living off nature...well most of it belongs to someone so you would be either tresspassing or stealing depending on what "live off" means.

you would be called homeless. as long as you didn't get caught by the cops you'd be fine. they call it vagrancy! but, if you can move to an American Indian Reservation than yes you could.

Yep, as long as you are not trespassing on someone's land or violating any laws by killing game out of season.

If you owned the land and continued to pay the taxes on it - yes. If you mean just disappear into the woods - well, yeah you can probably pull it off, but I don't believe it's legal because it would involve you squatting on someone elses land or extending your stay on public lands - both of which are illegal.

Good luck trying to find any "land to live off of". There's a lot of homeless people that do it.
