No. That is the choice of the judge, as when you see him about that fine, you will be under arrest for jury duty evasion, which is a crime, and one that can be issued as a standing warrant. He can issue one, the other, or both.

Hopefully this is hypothetical, but I don't think any person who isn't a moron would entertain paying $1000 to avoid jurty duty. Not many people make that much to make it even remotely worth it. That and the criminal record.

I really don't think so. I'm pretty sure you have to go or a warrant is sent out for your arrest, then you have to go to court, and deal with all that. Chances are, you'll be there for a day and it will be over with. Do you really want to risk imprisonment?

you do realize it says and/or meaning they could say forget the fine, we're going to imprison you. just go. we all do it.

and if you don't go, no matter what they do put out a bench warrant for you so you'll end up at the court anyways!

you should do jury duty, you dont want to lose 1 grand. if you dont go to jury duty you pay a fine

Yes if you don't mind the fine and jail time. Then, you will be selected for jury duty again. This process will repeat itself and the penalty will get more severe every time until you comply. Good luck! I'm glad all Americans don't try to duck their responsibilities like you.

That's ridiculous. You have to turn you self in, get arraigned, get date, get sentenced, finally pay the fine. Just go. when they ask a question, give them the wrong answer. Forget the racist thing, they'll never ask that. Just go like; "You got nutin. NUTIN".

It would be better to simply show up and serve or to request to be taken off jury duty because you will be out of the state or city on the date.

No, that's not how it works. The judge can order the violator to jail for contempt AND $1000.00 max fine. He/She COULD keep you in jail for up to 180 days.

Then, you'd be directed to return for jury duty on the next jury date.

If you didn't, it would start all over again.

Here's an idea. When they go to interview you for the case, just act like the most hateful person in the world. Say something to the effect that in your opinion, everyone who is accused must be guilty or they wouldn't be accused at all.

OMG!! Seriously, what is wrong with you people, who are against jury duty, it's a fine job, and not to mention interesting, you get to be part of a case, and give you opinion on the defendant, I've attended a couple and loved every minute of it, god people, own up and do your DUTY!!!

you can however if they are so inclined they can make you go to jail as well. remember they can do what they want. You should not rely on what anyone says on this one. Just call them and make sure you understand if indeed money is no prob then they may be nice.

just show up and when they ask you questions, just answer by saying.

"sorry, im racist"

they'll let you go right away and u wont have to serve for another year
