I was traveling at 50 MPH in a FIFTY FIVE zone. I come upon a 35 zone and began to slow down. There were TWO cars in front of me that were doing at least 60 in the 50 MPH zone when we came upon the 35 zone. They saw a cop up ahead, and slowed down really quickly, making me catch up to them and making me slow down even further. I was going 30 when I passed the cop. I pulled into a friends driveway to drop him off from school, and the cop turned his lights on and pulled me over. He told me he assumed I was doing 50 in a 35 because I caught up to the two cars who slammed on breaks, and he told me they were doing 40(Remeber this is a 35 MPH zone) when they passed him....... I was doing below 35 way before I came up on the cop. He writes me a $180 dollar ticket.

Oh, and here's the other thing. The two cars in front of me passed him before I did. He turned his lights on and began to pull out BEFORE I EVEN GOT BESIDE HIM. Yes, that's right. Before I even passed him, I had my blinker on prepared to turn into my friends driveway. I see him turn his lights on, and I'm like "Oh boy one of those guys are getting pulled over." The I pass the cop, doing UNDER the speed limit, and not 2 seconds later, I turn into my friends driveway, and he follows me and tells me all this BS.

BULL TO THE MAX.but it boils down to your word against his. He already has the over used title of "officer" so who are they going to believe?
Some states you can ask to see the radar gun and you have the right to see it.
You could always talk to the judge on your court date, but depending on how the system in your area is run, you may or may not see the judge on the first day and when you get to see the judge the officer is not going to be there, so sometimes they tell you to come back with the officer is there.
With all of that in consideration you may win in court, but some places still make you pay the court cost.
So if you take off work it is going to run you a lot more money and $180.
Sadly you ran into an cop that knows all of this and uses it to stroke his power thirsty ego. Maybe someday the same cop will be a victim of some sort of inconvenient assumption, we can hope anyway. |
