If an inmate is transferred will they still receive mail sent to a previous jail address?

Found out a friend of mine is locked up. Mailed him a letter to a jail facility....found out he was transferred to another.

from personal experience i know if the inmate is no longer at the facility you mailed the letter to, then guess what it WILL come back to you and you have to send it to the other facility. This is jail prisons forward.

You will have to find out where he was transported. They will just send it back to you if they are no longer at that facility. Atleast that is what we did where I worked.

**I only worked in a county jail...not a prison so it could be different.

Yes, they will forward it to wherever they are being transferred, however it can may take awhile.

If a jail usually forwarded to sender.
If a Prison forwarded to new location within system.
If going from state to state return to sender, same with if going to Federal system from Prison.
