If police officer stops you for going through red light and you contest it in court what is likely outcome?

In the UK (this is UK answers after all)
If you lose (very likely without absolute proof) then you will get a higher fine (plus £15 victims surcharge) and possibly an extra point.

Unless you can absolutely prove that you did not do this then it is better not to contest.aa

It's going to boil down to the police officer's word against yours. Who are the court going to believe?

If you're found guilty it's going to cost you more than the fpn.

(By the way, temporary lights have the same effect as permanent ones, you are not permitted to "proceed with caution" - though a lot of us do.)

You will lose.

ffs, what is it with all you people who just can't admit that you got caught acting like a nobber.

You will get a bigger fine. Hopefully. I live in a city centre and near my flat people constantly jump the lights. Its always fun nearly being run over when you are going about your daily business because some arsewipe can't be bothered to wait 20 seconds.

rent_head_92
If you ran a red light, you screwed anyways. Don't make a scene, pay the fine and learn from the mistake.

Unless you have several witnesses of high standing that have seen the event, then you're done mate.

Nobody usually wins when contesting the police, you will probably just end up with a big court costs bill.

ANF
You would only contest it if you had irrefutable evidence that you did not jump the light. Otherwise it would be a waste of your time and ultimately your money.

Lily B Talus
depends if you can prove that you didn't go through the light

If the officers shows up to court, the judge will usually side with the officer, unless you have proof. Then you will end up paying the fine plus court cost.

Outspoken but Honest
You could end up out of pocket as the police are never ever wrong.

you will need a solicitor but its up to the police to prove your guilty and not for you to prove your innocent, hence the law terminology ''INNOCENT TO PROVEN GUILTY''

Just Call me AJ
you'll get a bigger fine than the one you would have got if you didn't contest it.

charlie
It depends on weather it was a temporary or a permanent traffic light. If permanent then the courts will take the side of the police. If a tempura's light. Then say it was on green when you last looked, you stand a fair chance. You are allowed to proceed with caution through a temp red light

you will lose, the court is an equity court, which is very biased and a business looking to make money, the only possible way to win (which frankly won't be worth it ) is to change the court from equity to common law/civil, you do this by getting the judge to affirm his oath of office ,this will bond him to the common law and you can then demand your right to a jury, but the jury could find against you.
Just pay the fine.

Headshrinker
you will get bummed
