If some one gets life in prison, should we just kill them?
Find answers to your legal question.

If some one gets life in prison, should we just kill them?

It cost over $300,000 per person a year to live in jail, and he's staying for life, why shouldn't we just kill them, bullet is 5 cents.

Amu
Killing is not the fully right choice.if the person has done a heinous crime then he deserves death instead of life in prison.Let aside the cost, the person must get the fruit of his act.Money is not more important than repentance.
I understand that he won't be given any chance to reform himself but atleast in that life he'll feel guilty.Spiritually talking,he'll suffer for what had come his way and do better in his next life(?),Right?

star29
Yes, I think we should. Why should we waste money on someone who committed an awful crime? I don't care if people want them to suffer unless they are going to pay for them to stay in prison. Plus prisoners actually aren't treated that badly. Many of them can get a college education while in prison without spending a dime. Tax payers pay for that. Also people who are in jail a long time usually get more respect because they have been there so long.
I say get it over with and just kill them. It would save millions a year.

Rain
Actually, killing and burying a prisoner is costly for tax payers as well.

i think it is better to kill them.

NO, because what if some evidence comes along years later that proves that they are innocent? You can't undo a death.

well... according to the amount of money, itll be much economical to do so, but in a morality way of thinking no.

Not that I say its inmoral to kill... but people who think that death is the worst penalty are people who are afraid of it, the fact remains that we still have no idea what happens after death, so I think we should stick on what we can control, other than what we cant, and that my friend is life. so, why let them suffer in their graves if we can make them suffer here? its not like jail is a good place to live anyway.

ASiH
but you do have a good point.

Yeah im with you people are suffering and need the money more than they do. That money could be put to use somewhere else

No they should have to suffer!!

Tribal Chief
You'll be surprised at the number of innocent people who get jailed for life. If we end their lives, we permanently rob them of any hope of being proven innocent. We have had occasions where some guy shows up an confesses to a crime in which an innocent guy is already rotting in jail. Think guys. Next time it might be you thrown in the cooler for life for something you had not done.

I think anyone that is sentenced to life in prison or the death sentence...They should be made to finally contribute to society...Instead of using innocent animals for research testing...(Results that aren't always going to be the same with humans)....we should use the prisoners as the lab rats...it does no one any good for them to sit in a cell for years waiting to die...usually they are there because they have taken a life...make them give back to potentially save some lives!!!!

f12button
Actually, it costs more around $24,000 a year. Not $300,000. That's absolutely insane, and i really have no idea where you got that.

Life is always better than death -- it's the last thing you have when you have nothing. I'm all for the death penalty, but don't rob someone of life if all their sentence was is life.

Many times when you hear that someone was sentenced to "life" they are being sentenced to 20 to 25 years, not their entire life. Americans view life with the utmost of importance...in that light, if we take someone's life with a 5 cent bullet we are no better than they are.

kristenrenepoindexter
you have a good point but if you kill the person you make yourself out to be no better than he was for commiting the crime that caused him to get life and besides don't you know that thats the hole point of putting people in prison so that the owners and the such make that money

sexyfreaky17
It may cost alot but the suffereing they endure is worth it.

Tami T
I agree why should we have to pay for them to sit & think for the rest of their life the wrong that they did just put everyone out of misery & shoot them.

Who are we to decide on life or death when we are all guilty of sin.

because thats inhumane. i think a person should be punnished like that only if he did something very very wrong. If its something like not paying a fine, why should you kill them

amandax086
so they suffer & have to think about what they did wrong.

No , they could learn something , or help someone in prison , you can do a lot of things while you are in prison.

The bullet may cost 5 cents, but there is alot of legal proceedings to go through before you get to spend that 5 cents. When an inmate is given a death sentence, he/her trial records go up through the judicial system. This is to make sure that no Judicial errors were made. The cost comes from hiring more, or different attorneys. The appeals will take years before it would be heard by the states highest courts, and then they could go to the Federal Appeals court. They charge the State more money to do this. In reality it costs more to put an Inmate to death then keeping him alive. Maybe he/she is such a bad person, that other inmates will take care of the problem for us.

abdul_gaffar_dubai
Not to kill them, put them in prison for their guilty so that others can learn and not to do this again.

They are not suffering by getting 3 meals and lots of time to think about the stuff they will do when they possibly get out. I have to pay for them to be there and if they are definatly wrong, why waste the money for them to sit there kill them...sooner rather than later. Maybe if people knew they were going to die if they were found guilty maybe there wouldn't be so much crime.

no, we must gove poeple a chance to change , plus who doesnt luv wastin omney..........specially bush

Because they deserve to rot in prison. Death is the quick, easy way out for them. Though you do have a point. The government just likes to waste money and complain about it.

blondie09
because they want people to suffer, if we kill them all they are doing is killing someone and getting put to sleep, end of that story, but if we put them life in prison they have to suffer by being watched 24/7 and seeing bars the rest of their life.

mzgohard
we keep talking about money we are spending, when in reality.. if u aint payin to keep a person in jail... Uncle Sam will take that same nickle and dime..and put it somewhere else...so it doesn't matter about where our taxes are spent...i do believe that they should be put in prison...in a special institute directed at the most uncomfortable living without breaking any human rights laws. it should be in a remote area away from cities and our communities.. hell i wouldn't be apposed to makin it and off shore island...or get some good use of Antarctica. And take away week ordering lists. Issue them 2 uniforms to change in and out of, 3 pairs of draws , 2 socks, and some slippers...nothin else...and meals.. the get breakfast... a sack lunch...and light dinner...not cakes or jail cookies...no chips or noodles...they learn to deal with what they get...just like the victim had to...no academics, minimum books, no Tv ...juss a cell and their thoughts....
