That's why in Washington DC, which had a total ban on handguns, had the highest murder rate in the country.

Tell you what, you find a group of criminals willing to obey gun laws (while robbing, murdering & raping you) and then you might be able to tell me something.

Yes illegal activities would become rampant. As long as aclu takes every action it can to suspend the rights of law abiding people and enable criminals we need something to protect ourselves.

I don't think current crime rates would change if people are furious about something and they want to hurt someone don't do anything possible to go ahead and do it.. what would change.. would be the amount of accidents.. people would not accidentally shoot themselves or someone else.. I think just like driving a car. One should get a license to operate a gun.. here are my local gun shop they will sell a gun to anyone over 21..
there should be some kind of a test that needs to be passed to operate a gun.. that's just my opinion I hope it was helpful...

There would probably be fewer shootings...;). However, people would still be violent in other ways so overall, I doubt it would change much.

YOur quesiton seems a bit simplistic on the surface. On one hand, as many above have assumed, if guns were BANNED, then crime rate goes up, or as the addage says 'When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."

But the question can also be posed to ask what would the effect be if guns did not exist? Would crime rates go up or down? Since the next weapon of choice would be the knife, or sword, the killing or violence from weapons would be done in close quarters. With a gun y ou can stand across the room, even across the street and shoot. (Soldiers can be 1000's of yards away and take down the enemy.) With a sword, you must be within that 3 foot distance and be eye to eye with the intended victim. In such examples, I would say that crime would go down, as most perpetrators of such random crimes would not feel up to being that close to their victims.

Some of the worst crimes are committed with guns, by both police and citizens. So yes I think they might change, for the better.

I don't think so bcoz its not the weapons that are bad, its our way of thinking & our hatred, jealousy & our mentality that is contributing towards the rising rate of crime.....we should learn to live n let live.
