If you are 16, can you get a permanent police record for running away for the weekend?
Find answers to your legal question.

If you are 16, can you get a permanent police record for running away for the weekend?

Not permanently running away, just going away for the weekend and then coming back. Letting your parent know your going, but not caring whether they give permission or not. (I am not in this situation, just curious.)

If your under 18 it gets erased when your 18. will just be on your juvi record.

You will have a juvenile record for delinquency by disorderly conduct. Once you are 18, the record is sealed. Just behave yourself and you won't have to worry about it.

naaaah....! just after you leave call your parents twice a day so they can sleep at night...no need to alk too much just say you are ok and then if they become a pain just hang up even if they will never say they will appreciate it. i say that from personal experience!
have fun!!!!!!!!

no your not 18

You know i believe it starts with your 'rents. Will they call the police? Now will the police charge you with the "crime" of being a runaway. Basically the police can press charges on you for wasting their time on your "runaway" case. The way they see it there are children out there whom have run away and actually need help. Then it depends on the state you live in. Also depends on how the judge feels.
But you can resolve this by not running away. If you decide to leave just call your 'rents from a pay phone periodically and let them know you are okay.

I dont think so, not unless you actually get arrested for something. I think your record gets sealed when you turn 18 unless its a felony or something.

No. Usually somethings you do before you're 18 goes away once you turn 18. I shoplifted from Target (which is probably way worse than running away) and I got caught with about $300 worth of items. It was on my record then cleared as soon as I hit 18. So don't worry about it unless you wanna kill someone, then that's different >_>

No, it will not be on your "record" at all. Only felonys stay on your record and that definatly isn't a felony.

There are several points here so hang with me.

First, any police report becomes a permanent record. If you ran away and your parents filed a missing person / runaway report, it will always exist. If they don't call, and the police never become aware, then there will obviously be no record.

Second, if your state has a law against running away, then you could be charged, which would make it a permanent juvenile charge. Not all states have a law against it, so that depends on where you live.

Third, juvenile records are typically confidential, so even though the record officially exists, it can't be released without your permission, and generally you are not obligated to release juvenile records except for certain background checks for law enforcement and government jobs. They may also be ordered to be unsealed by a court as part of a later criminal prosecution, but this is not common.

Fourth, although your juvenile records are confidential, typically they can be released upon your death, so if anyone cares at that point, they can access it then.

its not running away if they know you are going.........you are just disobeying. that does not go on your permanent record.lol.

You're not of legal age. Anything you do falls back onto your parents. Don't be an idiot, you won't have to pay for it, your parents will. I beg you to stop being so selfish.. I ran away for a few days thinking I knew what was best for me. And I ruined my family. You don't pay your bills, you don't buy your food, clothes. You don't pay for ****, why throw your parents under the bus? You think your mom and dad don't understand what you're going through? Hello, they are the ones dealing with your stupid *** attitude right now. Wait til you're 18 and your parents don't have to take care of you. Run away and find someone who will....

i think all juvenile records get erased once you turn 18. not sure so you shouldn't try it. running away never solves anything unless ur actually an adult and you want to leave wherever you are.

Sugga
anytime your at the police depending on how bad it is it can go on your record. and if your parents are the type to send yu away or if social services find out they can reccomend your parents are unfit to take care of you and put you in an orpanage and then you wont be able to go anywhere.

Absolutely not. Your slate is wiped clean when you turn 18.

yup if not you go to boot camp in virgina for another weekend and see how you like it there

lisa_swarn
no you can not the police officers will just question you and talk to you. No one really gets in trouble.

Why would you want to screw up your life for a weekend out with friends that your parents said no? Hell your 16... you have a lot of time to go away for the weekend with friends. Even if it will be fun... Think of it like this. You are the adult and your 16 year old kid wants to go away for the weekend... How would it make you feel? Exactly! Get a clue... Make a smart choice and you have the rest of your life to look back on it. If you screw up thats it-- it's done and over ...
