If you call 911 from a cell phone but you cant speak for whatever reason........?

I think that most phones have GPS integrated into them.

Also, they can get a rough idea by determining which cell towers your phone is reaching, what signal strength the towers are getting from your phone, and using triangulation to give them a rough idea of where you are.

Not unless there is some sort of GPS device in the phone.

A majority of 911 centers in the country now have Phase II wireless, which is the ability to get an approximate location of where the call is being placed from. But it is not an exact science.

Who they send, if anyone, depends on an agencies policies. My agencies will send an officer to the general area to see if they can find anything. If not they simply clear the call.

It's best to be able to give your location so we know where to send the field units.

The answer is yes and no because there are a number of factors.. 1. If you are using a GPS enabled phone which most modern cellphones are but there are still ones that aren't. 2. If the the agency that handles your 911 call has the equipment to receive and track your 911 GPS signal because not all do have this equipment simply because they cant afford it.. But if you have the GPS enabled phone and you dial 911 your phone will automatically send its GPS location to the 911 system which will give the phones location within a certain radius...

It depends on your phone and the capabilities of the 911 center. At ours, it will either come up with the location of the tower you are calling from or with your location within about 20 yards. So if you are in a populated area with a lot of houses or apartments around you, it is not likely that anyone could pinpoint your location. But if you are in a less populated area or in the middle of a field, it is more likely that they could find you.

But for now they can only pinpoint an approximate area you could be in and if you are indoors, you are out of luck.

now and days aot of phones have GPS but they will have to trace so it may take a while
