Yeah, probably at least most of them. I wouldn't know what to do with a whole suitcase full of diamonds. Most likely someone is looking for them. When I brought it to someone to sell, I'm sure word would get out. So, I'd either be arrested for stealing or selling stolen merchandise or I'd be killed by whomever stole the diamonds or who they were stolen from. I'd turn it into the cops minus a hand full which I would hold onto for a safe amount of time for everything to blow over, then sell them down the road, when it's safe!!

Not only are the ones who stole them going to be looking, but the police are going to think whoever sells them (you) stole them. Not only the police, but probably federal investigators for a crime that big.

If any law enforcement overseas gets word that you're trying to sell a suitcase full of diamonds, they'll inform the FBI. If the criminals are professional enough to steal a whole suitcase full of diamonds, they may have enough connections to get word also, even if you go overseas.

This may not be the best idea, and one reason I'd sit on them for years (in addition to letting the heat die down and hopefully for the criminals to get arrested or killed) is to research possibilities like this; but I think the best bet would be to go to Africa and trade the diamonds in small bundles. You could set up a limited partnership with a group of investors to purchase uncut diamonds in Africa, and that would be your cover story. You come back to the U.S. having made some wise purchases (you keep the investors' cash also), you sell the laundered diamonds, and you're rich.

Two big worries with this plan: 1) smuggling the diamonds into Africa, 2) getting robbed/murdered. There's also the possibility that one of your trading partners would suspect (he'd have to suspect--let's say he KNOWS) that your diamonds are stolen, and he might inform law enforcement or put the word out on some criminal network. My thinking is that diamonds are usually purchased from, not fenced in, Africa, so it's unlikely that the original thieves would learn anything about this.

It would take a lot of research to get this right, and the research itself might get you caught.

It may be simpler and better to just approach a legitimate business or wealthy celebrity. You don't have to sell all the diamonds, just enough to live comfortably for a few years. Although, if law enforcement finds out about the first sale, they'll be looking for you to make the next one.

I found it. There was no name on it. I had nothing to do with any crime that may have been committed for the suitcase to get lost. Therefore I have done nothing wrong and I would be within my right to keep them! Thats like finding a $20 on the ground in a parking lot. You have done nothing wrong by taking it!
