My best friend yesterday got a protection from abuse order (a restraining order basically). She stupidly went to her house last night to pick up her kids without the police. He called the police because she busted the window when he locked her out. She ended up being arrested, and it was not a good experience. Today she needed to file a report about him contacting her and the officer that arrested her last night was the one who came up to help her, she asked for a different person. Then ten minutes later he came back up. She walked out of the police station, and the officer told me that he was the one handling her case, that she cannot pick and chose who she deals with.
Is that tru?

My department assigns officers to specific areas, and you are responsible for all the calls in that area.
Unless you have a reasonable reason for the request, we will not send a different officer. If you have a specific complaint, you can request a supervisor. However, the supervisor will only address the complaint against the officer. If he feels there is a conflict of interest, he will dispatch another officer. |

Not true. Police follow a chain of command. Officers answer to a patrol supervisor or a corporal, then Sargent, lieutenants, captains and ultimately the chief of police. If your friend feels that the officer is not handling the case properly you can always request the next person in the chain of command. My advice is to request the supervisor and request the officer she dealt with to conference in and resolve her concerns. If your friend got a PFA she should not have broke the conditions of the order and used a nuetral party to get her kids. but there you go! |
