If you have a warrant out for your arrest is there a statue of limitations on it?
Find answers to your legal question.

If you have a warrant out for your arrest is there a statue of limitations on it?

Is it invalid after how ever many years ?

No it doesn't go away, but if it is only a misdemeanor warrant you can move to another county or state and forget all about it as long as you don't go back to the county you have the warrant in.

I do not believe so.

No, there is no statute of limitations. The statute of limitations stops when the arrest warrant is issued and starts again when the arrest is made. Arrest warrants don't go away.

Rock Firestorm
Uh...no. It doesn't go away after a certain amount of time.

No it is good forever. In 20 years if you are pulled over and the cop looks up your name the warrant will pop up on his screen and you get arrested.

Texas Star
Nope... warrants expire on two occasions:

1. When the offender is arrested.
2. When the offender is dead.

Period.

Statute of Limitations have to do with the time period from the occurrence of the offense to the filing of the case.

Michael
There might be limitations put on them in certain jurisdictions, but I've never heard of it specifically. When I was policing I once served a fourteen year old warrant for a traffic violation.

Once criminal charges have been filed (issuing a warrant), there is no statute of limitations. But, if no charges have been filed against a person, the statute of limitations for most cases ends in 10 years in most states. Murder has no statute of limitations.

Once criminal charges have been brought against a person, it is up to the judge to throw it out.

depends on the crime and the stae law the warrant is issued under. Usually murder never expires, other crimes you need to check with the state atty general.
