As a member of the human race, I would have to help the Police Officer.I admit there are some bad cops, but I know many that are very hard working and decent people. I couldn't stand be and watch someone murdered. |

Even if I wasn’t a cop, I would help, a person has a moral obligation to assist and help stop lawlessness, police can not keep society safe all on their own, it takes the good will and assistance of descent people to keep us all safe. |

Call another cop a.k.a. 911. Standing around, or walking away from a violent crime would possibly make you an accessory of the crime. (How? Because it would be like your helping the law-breakers, by not reporting them in!) Therefore, you would be in BIG trouble if caught.
On the other hand, you might horribly guilty afterwards, if you happened to see news that the policeman died. Then, you'd probably wish you were there to do something. It would haunt you for the rest of your life, unless you have a heart of stone. |

What kind of a person are you? What kind of person would even ask "Just stand around and laugh?" or "Join in on the beating?"
If you were being pummeled by thugs, what would you expect people to do?
Dial 911. Do whatever you can to help. Try to enlist the aid of other civilians to help. If you can do nothing else, capture it on video/camera to be used as evidence later on.
Quite frankly, I'm glad I don't know you. You're a disgrace in my opinion. |

Depends how many people are there beating up the cop. I'd likely call 911, if my group of friends were about the same size as their group then we'd try to break it up, or if I'm in my car I'd drive up to them with the horn blaring to scare them off. Swarms of people are not that different than insects, you hit the light or make a loud noise they scatter.
None the less I would definitely call attention to it and try to get as many faces on my camera phone as I could. |

I would do what I needed to make sure that one man did not get killed by a mob mentality. if that means shooting some of the beaters.... so be it. I am an excellent shot with all I have. 1, 2, 3 on the ground would be a deterant to the rest.
as I have said before...I carry and with that comes the responsibility of not only my safety, but all those around me as well. I do not believe in gangs, whether they are legal(many police stations) or illegal bloods, 13, kings. it is better to be judged by 12...than to be carried by 6. |

I would think quick on my feet depending on the situation. Am I in a car or on foot. Either way I would attack the thugs and help the officer which would never happen in real life.

The first thing to do is to obtain additional help. My getting involved right away w/o calling for help or getting someone else to call for help is a waste of time because though I would jump in to help the officer, I'm not much of a fighter, so I better get help first.
One thing that was incorrectly stated. Failure to help is not a crime. People are not expected by law to put themselves in danger for another person...so no legal reason....but there is a moral law that help must be obtained. |

Depends on the cops really. If its the cops by me, Mount Pocono Regional, id help them, and make sure to get them good, cause these people can't do there job for shi*, but if it was some random new cop here, or a cop somewhere else, i would call 911... out of view of the people beating on the officer, as I wont be too fond of them kicking my *** next. If I have my weapon (Shotgun) in my car, I would def use it break up the fun, not even bother to call 911. And I don't mean by shooting, but by taking control of the situation long enough for the cop to at least get up and call for backup. |
