Or would you simply ignore it. Additional Details you guys rock...not a single joke filled or smart alecky response!
I would report it, only because shoplifting results in higher prices for the rest of us.

The store security guard has to personally see the shoplifting incident themselves before they can prosecute, so reporting it would have no effect unless the person continues shoplifting. |

Shoplifting is a crime, you have to report it when someone did it. Otherwise, you can be arrested as a co-conspirator or lookout. |

There is only one answer here - report it.
Anyone who answers differently is not a part of society. You need to think it through to its logical conclusion.
If everyone shoplifted (ie stole) instead of paying there would be no shops. We cannot allow a minority to live by one set of rules while the rest of us subsidise them.
The same applies to gypsies and squatters - on the face of it it is great to opt out of society, its obligations and responsibilities. But the problem is, for everyone who does, there are a group of others who have to sponsor it.
No - never mind about being Buddhist, worried about their associates etc etc - what you are doing and saying is that you are not prepared to play your part in the society you live in.
Most of us do. |

Yes, I would. If you have no morals, I would see why someone would keep quiet, but kinda think of an extreme situation. If someone was to put a Bomb on a plane and you knew about it, would you alert the authorities? I would hope so! I know stealing and putting a Bomb are two separate extremes, but my point is they are both crimes and should be reported. People will tend to lie to themselfs, and make up a excuse to make what there doing seem justified, but it's not! Just stand up for what you believe in!! |

No. Why? Because the store should have taken all the appropriate measures to ensure that no shoplifting is possible. (ie installing cameras and all that). However, if I saw someone picking somebody's pocket, or stealing anything from an individual I would tell. |

Some people even have an addiction to shoplifting, kind of like kleptomania. They will steal just to steal. Go from store to store each day. For the rush, the high. They don't need the stuff. They just need the rush. The thrill of getting away with it. The goods just pile up on their house. It's a sick addiction. They want something for nothing. As if society owes it to them. And when and if they get caught, they cry that it's their first time, they've never shoplifted before and swear they'll never do it again.
So...yes, if I see someone shoplifting, I'll report it. I turned in one of our foster girls once, she was shopping with me and I knew she was stealing, sure enough, they watched her and they busted her. |

Security doesn't have to witness the act of shoplifting, they just have see them take the item(s) passed the last point of payment without paying. And yes, I've alerted security to someone shoplifting and I'd do it again. I could care less how poor someone is, there are alternatives to stealing. No one has the right to take something that doesn't belong to them. |
