Ok i was fired like two weeks ago for stealing company time ( i took longer than 15 min on a break and also because i miss used my employee discount (not on purpose accident) and then a few days later a friend cop of mine told me i really got fired for stealing coffee or giving away free coffee to people at starbucks were i worked inside of target. so i was wondering if they could arrest me even though its been 3 weeks since they fired me and never said anything to me about stealing coffee just the first two offenses i stated. Additional Details I didn't steal anything from inside target i just didn't pay for coffee from starbucks cause i worked their and neither did anybody else we all just took the coffee cause we were working

It's technically possible, but unlikely.
The management is probably fully aware that their employees are dipping into the coffee supply, and may even expect it to happen and are sort of just half ignoring the practice. It's much like with bars, where the owners usually don't mind bartenders sneaking a drink now and then as long as they're discrete about it and keep the cash register ringing. It's likely that you may have abused it too often, and when taking the other stuff you did into consideration they figured they should just let you go. My guess? Somebody in the management probably just didnt like you. Employees who get along with the staff and know how to keep their boss in a good mood usually get away with a lot more than stealing coffee or handing out their employee discount. |

You can be prosecuted for a crime anytime during the statutes of limitations for the crime. For petty theft it is normally 6 months to a year depending on state.
I love this line:
"I didn't steal anything from inside target i just didn't pay for coffee from Starbucks cause i worked their and neither did anybody else we all just took the coffee cause we were working"
1. It was not yours
2. You took it without permission
That IS stealing. The fact that your coworkers did the same thing changes NOTHING. |

They probably won't, since they don't want to deal with all the hassle of going to court. They're just glad to be rid of you. To bad you let yourself do this. It will follow you when applying for other jobs. Good luck, and in the future try to remember what is yours and what is not. |

It depends on the employer, usually that's the options you resign your position with the company or face criminal charges. THE END! |

1. They can fire you pretty much for anything in every state except for Montana. Let's say they put down that they fired you for "stealing company time." That does not prevent them for going after you for stealing other stuff.
#2. If you did misuse your employee discount, stole coffee and giving away coffee (costing them sales) they could file a criminal complaint against you for that also.
According to the cop, they did not fire you for what they said but for the more serious theft. It seems to me they gave you a break. Your best bet would be not to do anything. They are probably satisfied just to get rid of you. I would not ask them for a reference in applying for another job. And in the next job, do not steal stuff. |

Yes. They can change there minds and have you charged. But, if they wait too long, it is not likely. |

They can report the crime any time they want. The police can only charge you up to the limit of time allowed by the statute of limitations for the particular crime. If they report it after the time limit is up, then you are free. So depending on what level of crime it is and what your State has for the statute of limitations, yeah, they could make a report and cause you to face up to what you did, if you did it. |
