From trusted authority, a cop friend, I know that the hardest time a person will ever do is county time.

My son is in State Prison on a drug charges, he's 25 - he's a big strong guy...but to deceive his victims, keeps a very clean cut look. (he also has a history of conning people, though he hasn't been caught at that yet) He's good looking, no tattoos or piercings which leaves him open to having to protect himself. But when push comes to shove he is intimidating...You, however, are a little guy! I hope you find a friend that will help you fight for your food and blanket! Watch your ***..

Edit: Oh..another thing. My son was in county the last time he was in jail. His cell mate was great to him but murdered his next. Why? Personal Hygiene or lack thereof. Clean yourself with the sink daily but don't make yourself smell too good!

Dont drop the soap and make sure theres nobody standing behind you, my partner was in an out as a young fellow, only your height, but bigger in size, he used to take on the toughest bloke in sight, he'd get beaten up alot but had respect, and thats what counts unless you have money, think before you act next time you are considering breaking the law, then you won't have to worry about a thing, goodluck anyway!

Bro, These answers are by the most stupid people in the world...dont grab the soap???? I was in prison four 6 years, for a marijuana charge, how stupid is that...It was easy man, there is no one going to try raping you first of all because you will be atleast in a minimum security facility,there arnt even barley any bars on most minimum security prisons...they have a fence with barbed wire around the whole place, all are different but you will see.. its only your first time, second of all, 75 percent of the people in there are some of the coolest people ive ever met, they are real, none of this talking bull---- that people do out in society... we all make mistakes man, most of us dont get caught. I think everyone who is writting negative remarks to you has some bad karma comming their way. Its not the best place in the world, but a year is nothing dude. Im white, go in there and read, learn to turn it into a possitive experience. I did, Im a way better person now. I promise, you will be fine. Its easy to stay out of fights....people hate fighting, it gives everyone more time. And where your going there are alot of people who will be doing minimal time and want to get out worse than you...you will have your support... Trust me man. You did the crime, now you do the time... man up, and learn from this. come out a better man, I did

It tells you, in nuts-and-bolts detail, almost everything you need to know to survive each day in prison. It covers everything from "busted" to parole, "supermax" to prison buses, and half-way houses. One of the authors has been on a prison staff; the other is an ex-convict. There are copies--this week--in a used bookstore; the city library also has many copies. I have no experience with jails and prisons, but I recommend this book for anyone with any interest in the subject. I think it is a must-read for anyone going to jail or prison; it could easily keep them alive. There is a chapter on women behind bars. The book includes what to say, and not say, when in contact with the police. It talks about lawyers, bond, and bail, gives information on some 24 prison reform advocacy groups, and covers the problems, including finding a job, of living in the "outside" world, after being released. ---Jim

Dont listen to most of these people. They are trying to scare you. If your only doing 5 month chances you will be going to a county facility not a REAL prison. Even so keep your mouth shut and don't give the guards lip. Dao your own thing but don't act like you are too afraid. What you see on TV is an exageration unless is a high security prison. at worse you'll be in a low security facility.

Ight first of all, dont sit at any table with more then 10 guys in a crew, look for a table next to the officers for the first month or so, after u get to no the guys and understand what makes them mad you can offer them your dessert and see if you can join them. Good luck

If I were you, when they classify you to see what unit you will be housed in, you should ask them to put you in protective custody.

Based on your physical description, you will be an easy target. Another thing to do is make sure you join the right white boy gang. Nobody makes it on thier own in the Penn.

Whoever said "don't drop the soap" was serious, you should sleep with you butt against the wall too.

Become friends with the CO's correctional officers, they can make your life hell, far worse than the other inmates. They will do for you if you show them respect. Stay on the correct yard, dont be live in unit b, but hang on unit or yard C, it is like turning on your group. Still with your own race unless you want to get into a fight.
Also be ready to chill out, getting hyper in a small area makes everyone nervous.
Make sure you dont try to be in control, you are there to be submissive and fit in to do your time.
Make sure you dont go back. My brother has three strikes, he'll never see the real world again.

you're not gonna die if you act right. you're supposed to fight back if anyone messes with you first otherwise they'll never stop messing with you, but usually if you keep to yourself, you'll be alright. Don't tell anyone what your in for of it's something that will get your a55 kicked.
If you are that worried about it, get yourself thrown in the hole so that no other inmates can get near you.
i have had a few friends who served prison time (at different times) and they made friends with other guys, started bands on the inside and generally turned it into a better experience than anticipated- although it wasn't a field trip.
rent The Shawshank Redemption and take that vibe in.
