Im having trouble with my neighbour and her stupid noisey aggresive odg?

it constantly barks at my disabled daughter, causing her to run in screaming with fera. she has autism so she is very noise sensative. i have asked her several times to sort it out. have infomed my housing officer. when she recieved a report that i had complained against her,she made malicious false allegations of me that i was being aggressive towards my children. both mt daughters school and doctors and my health visitor backed me all the way as they know that is not true. my daughters way of communicating is by high pitch screams and noises,as she cannot talk properly. this neighbour is getting me down so much with her iggnorance of this problem with her dog. anyone ben through similar, and have you got some friendly advice on how to handle this problem. im not a violent person, but this woman is seriously testing my patience. am so worried that this dog is going to hurt my children. she told us herself that it bites. please help xx Additional Details sorry for the mis spelling. its a dog .

Just a few thoughts you may not have tried:
Are there any rules which prohibit the keeping of pets, either because the house is rented either from the council or a housing association.
As your local council environmental health dept. for advise about noise nuisance, they might help and will give you some log sheet forms to record the times and frequency of the disturbance the animal causes.
Is the dog dangerous, I note you say it's kept on a chain. Daft as it sounds sometimes people put signs up saying 'beware of the dog', even 'dangerous dog', 'guard dog', etc. The reason I ask this is that unwittingly the dog owner by claiming the dog is in one of thjose categories might have put themselves within the rules about keeping guard dogs, these are quite strict about making sure children esp. can not trespass unwittingly into the dogs reach, there has to be a handler present etc.
Try asking for advice at the local police station about legislation relating to dogs, out of control, dangerous, guard dogs, etc. You might get more realistic advice if you make an appointment with a member of the force's dog section.
Again you mention about the dog on a chain. There was a new Animal Welfare Act 2006 which came into effect 6th April 2007 in England. It's widened the responsibilities attached to pet ownership and responsibilities such as providing a suitable living environment, suitable diet, protecting animals from disease, suffering etc. The local council should have appointed an 'animal welfare officer' who can if appropriate issue a statutory improvement notice detailing what needs to be done and the time scale to carry out the improvements. Fines go up to £20,000 if the owner/ responsible person ends up in court. If you are in Scotland they had a similar act introduced 6th October 2006.
Do other neighbours share your concerns, have you tried getting your local councillor to help you out, maybe even trying for an ASBO ( antisocial behaviour order ) .
Good luck .. you may need to be persistent with the various official depts. so keep at it.
PS to the contributor Ian S: Police Officers are not all the same, if we / they were I wouldn't have bothered trying to help. I'm sorry if you had a bad experience but people tend to reap as they sow. |

An ex of mine, who's son has autism, had similar problems with ignorant neighbours.....whatever you do, stay on the right side of the law - contact your local MP and see if he can do anything to help - also, try the Citizen's Advice Bureau and the police if necessary...
....if this dog bites (ie, it's dangerous) something really needs to be done - good luck and I hope it works out for you |

I'm sorry to hear your daughter and you are having problems with a neighbour's dog.
Have you spoken to your neighbour, the owner of the dog about this? It might help.
If this does not work you can contact your local police and explain the problem to them. They will then be able to deal with this for you.
Are there any other neighbours near you who will support your claim against the owner of the dog in question? This also adds weight to your complaint.
If you and the owner of the problem dog are living in council owned property, your council can simply have the dog removed. It it's private housing, then it's a police matter. |

It's not the dog you have a problem with but the owner, she is not treating the dog correctly and therefore it will bark if it always chained up. Maybe you need to contact the RSPCA or similar animal welfare society and get the dog re-homed somewhere. It may mean a more peaceful life for you and the dog. The other thing is to put up a high enough fence in the short term so that your daughter can't see the dog. |

I had a similar problem. I had to sell my flat because the sociopath neighbour had a friend who was a serving police officer. So thus, despite written references from ten old next door neighbours and two witnesses who stated that they had seen him forcibly holding me down on the ground, the police believed my neighbour.
Do not waste your time and money. The police will say that the problem is your 'mentally ill' daughter. Sorry to say this but this is how they are. The police hate all people who are in any way different or have behavioural problems.
Being mentally disabled or ill is a crime in England.
Contact Liberty and Mind tomorrow. They should be able to help you. |

It sounds like you both are annoyed & don't understand eachother - you are annoyed w/ her dog & don't understand that that's what dogs do, they bark at people they see - she is annoyed w/ your daughter & doesn't understand that her having autism causes her to have high pitched screams. Neither one of you is right or wrong or has the right to try to make the other person move or get in trouble. As long as her dog stays secure & never gets loose, there's nothing you can do about it. This is not the only loud barking dog your daughter will have to deal w/ in her life, although it's too bad it is an annoyance & causes her to get scared, you can't protect her from everything, & maybe this will in some way help her to get used to the sound of dogs barking. If it's really unpleasant, all you can do is try to move to a new location where it's quite & there's no dogs near by. |

Post a leaflet through the womans door about autism then maybe she will understand what your daughter is going through. My cousin is autistic and its horrible how differently he is treated. Maybe after posting the leaflet try talking to the woman one more time if she is still no help I would go talk to your local coucellor or the police. The woman should have a muzzle on her dog.Good luck |

stupid noisey aggresive odgs are the pits, but hey slow down on the answerers.
I don't know where you are in the world, but try the local Citizens advice, the local Police for advice, a local solicitor, the local council on the best way to get the noisey aggresive odgs away from you and your family.
Evry time you are affected by the odg write it down and give it to the housing officer. next time to the same and make sure your dating these. If you have five pages for one day, that's ok, 5 pages for a week that's ok. Just write it all down. |

Personally, if it were me, I would try and reason with the neighbour. Ask to draw a line under the past, apologise for reporting her but say that you felt you didn't have a choice. Hopefully this will mend a bridge and open up the lines of commuication again.
If that doesn't work then keep pushing at the authorities to take the matter further. |

I would have someone kill the dog for you. Seriously.
Make sure they make it look like an accident so the woman doesn't come after you.
That may not strike you as 'friendly advice' but it may be the quickest solution. |

Well first off you should really be prepping to toss your daughter out. I know its cruddy but she'll never be an actual productive member of society and it really is for the best. Also, you can take care of the dog with a little antifreeze, just make sure noone sees you. |
