Im worried about bailiffs coming to my house?

I owe about £3000 to various people (contract phone, catalogues etc) I have been paying a little bit at a time but have missed a few payments on a few of the debts and I keep getting letters saying if I dont pay the full amount NOW they will send a bailiff round or take me to court etc. I am a single parent and cant afford to pay the debts off in full and can only manage about £10 a month on each debt. Im so scared of bailiffs coming to my house or being sent to court as I have a young son and no family to help me out, I get some inheritence money next year (enough to pay off all my debts) but there is no way I am allowed to have it early

You need to speak to your creditors and come to some arrangement to pay off the debts over a period of time.

Work out how much you can afford to pay to each one, and make them an offer. Even if it's only Â£5 a week.

They're likely to accept because getting some payment is better than none.

Then you must stick to the promised payment plan.

As long as you're making regular agreed payments its very difficult for them to take you to court.

basically i work in debt collection and i would suggest rather than ignore the letters call every debtor and get some arrangement going. If bailiffs come costs will soon add up and you can easily look at least 100 quid a visit depending on company. If you ask for an arrangement and show willing.. if it was me I would definitely consider that. Also go to Citizens advice and get their help.

Hiya sorry to hear about your problem but try not to worry as it will do you no good...the only time you gotta worry is if you owe Council Tax.

All the others as you mentioned (phone,catalogues) you can not get sent to jail for the worst is you get a CCJ (County Court Judgement) that will put a mark on your credit rating for 5-6 years making it harder for you to get credit (which may be a good thing in current times of financial crisis for everyone).

If you don't have much in the way of possessions ie:LCD TV and all mod cons....just let them in,if they can't find goods to the value of the bills you owe they can't do much except ask you to go into a pre payment scheme.....sometimes going to court is a good thing because the judge isn't always on the side of the bailiff's.

But whatever you do please don't worry about it,that's what the Bailiff's want you to do...don't give them the satisfaction.....as my dealings in the past with them i found them to be A***holes
