Ok so i am wondering if I am a victim of a domestic violence and there is a no contact order in effect what if i contact the person that is being charged with the domestic? Is that a contempt of court on my behalf? I need to know if I am doing something wrong. I am trying to get the charges dropped. Please answer. Thank you!

It would depend on the terms of the order.
Some orders specify that both parties are restrained from contacting the other; some orders only specify ONE party that is restrained.
In California, an order that only restrains 'party A' from contacting 'party B' does NOT prevent 'party B' from contacting 'party A'.
HOWEVER: If you break your own restraining order in this fashion, you are setting yourself up for two problems. The first is that you are demonstrating that you have no real need for the order in the first place - and this will make it easier for the restrained party to appeal to the court to have the order vacated. The second problem is that you are exposing yourself to the person that you needed an order to protect yourself from, and they might end up doing whatever it is they do that made you fearful in the first place.
You should read the order very carefully and consider the laws in your state. Call your local court or Police Department if you are not sure.
Also, keep in mind that in many (most?) states, Domestic Violence can be prosecuted regardless of the cooperation of the victim, because so many victims are psychologically locked into the relationship to the extent that they will remain in an abusive relationship right up until it gets them killed. This means that even if you are the victim, in many cases there is nothing you can do to 'get the charges dropped'. |

If there is a no contact order in place then you are not allowed to contact them. The only thing that I can think of to try to get the charges dropped is for you to hire a lawyer and see what they can do. |
