Legally, if the passenger in the car has drugs on them, do I get in trouble with the law as well simply because I'm driving him?
Also, a related question: if there are unopened bottles of alcohol in my car and I'm under 21, is that illegal as well?

If the cop knows what he/she is doing, then both of you will go down. I would charge the person its on with possession and depending on the amount may tac on with intent to distribute. As for the driver, I would charge him with transportation of narcotics and once again depending on the amount adding the distribution charge. Its your responsibility to know who's getting into your vehicle and with what. Letting them ride with in it on them makes you just as guilty as having it yourself. Your an accessory anyway you look at it.
Now onto the possession issue...For one, you'd be a minor in possession. Also, you be an MIP that's transporting alcohol. Depending on what state and county they could really hook you up for that one...and if your buddy is with you and has drugs...well, your in for a really long/bad day. And yes you can be charged with everything.
As the operator of a motor vehicle you have a great responsibility for everyone and everything in the vehicle as well as the safety of the other drivers on the road. Driving is a privilege not a right. |

In CT and every other state in the Union. The unopened bottles may depend on which state you are in and in CT I have no idea. |

If the party you are with has drugs on his person, then no, only he will be charged. If the drugs are in the car and not on either one of your, then you both will be charged. No, you can't transport alcohol under 21. |
