My girlfriend was pulled over today, and apparently the only thing that she had done wrong was she had an expired driver's license. I did not think that was something you can be pulled over for.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Umm, no. Only because it is impossible to be pulled over for an expired drivers license. The cop has no way of knowing that your license isn't valid until AFTER he pulls you over and runs it. He can't see a car and just magically know the driver has an expired license.
However, once he pulls you over he can write you a ticket for that. The police can almost ALWAYS justify pulling someone over. The law makes it pretty easy, and most people don't question authority anyway so they seldom have to justify themselves.
More likely she did something else which got his attention, and after he pulled her over he decided for one reason or another to only write her a ticket for the expired license.
He couldn't have pulled her over for an expired license, not because he isn't allowed to, just because he couldn't possibly have known (even by running the plates, because any can drive a car, not just the owner.) |

Completely legal, driving a motor vehicle on a state roadway without a valid driver’s license is an infraction plain and simple, an expired license is not a valid driving license
Welcome to the 21 century, my bet your girlfriend was driving her car, a police officer ran her tags, it came back that the owner of the car driver’s license had expired, this gave the police reasonable suspicion to make a vehicle stop,
Look you could be driving your girlfriends car, the police run the plate, come up owner has an expired license, at that point they have he right to make a stop and investigate who is actually driving the car |

Of course you can be pulled over for an expired license. She wasn't driving legally. |

Police can randomly spot check vehicle tags which also references the d/l. The suspicion is there that the driver has an expired license.
If the driver didn't have an expired license (you were driving), you would have likely been checked and sent on your way. It happens all the time. |

Yes, that is something you can get pulled over for. When a cop runs your plate, they can see if your license or license plate tags are expired if they are, theres a reason to pull you over right there. You can't drive legally with things like that that are expired, it's against the law. Save yourself the trouble next time and just go get them renewed on time. |
