In Mississippi, do you still have to pay for a speeding ticket when you go to traffic school?

I am from Mississippi and I got a speeding ticket a couple of weeks ago. I was going 52 in a 30 and my ticket is $186. This is my first speeding ticket and I want to go to traffic school so that it doesn't go on my record. I was told that if I go to traffic school then I still have to pay the ticket. But someone I know said that they were taking an online traffic course and they didn't have to pay the ticket. Can anyone tell me which one is right?

You have to pay the ticket. By electing the school you are basically pleading to the charge. You pay your fine and then pay an additional fee for the school. You may even have to pay an additional court cost but that varies by state. The only benefit from attending school is that adjudication is withheld and no points are assessed.

Your best bet is to contact the courts and ask them these questions. They are the ones who will process your ticket and will know all the laws and regulation. You should also ask the courts if you are allowed to take a driving school class. This will prevent your insurance from going up and points from being placed on your license. Just make sure you get the courts permission before doing so. If you donâ€™t the courts will reject your driving school certificate. Good luck!
