Ok well i am currently in the process of joining the border patrol and i passed the entrance exam already...i am barely 19 though and have only expereince in makin burgers and 4 semesters of college..i would like to gain some more experience through a volunteer cop program. the problem is that an agent mentioned something about them not hiring after september...waht does this mean..if i try re-applying in a year will it be harder for me to join because they will no longer have the hiring craze or will they just not hire anyone??

The Border Patrol just stopped accepting new applications because they have enough people in the hiring process to fill all the positions they have funding for this fiscal year. The fiscal year ends in September. Then they will generally have to at least hire enough agents to account for attrition (retirement, job changes, etc). This is on top of any special money that is allocated to beef up the ranks beyond the current staffing levels. So they will most likely be hiring, just perhaps not at the rate they have been for the past couple of years. |

They won't hire until they get their budget under control. They're on a hiring freeze because the government has no money and until they shape it back up, I wouldn't count on getting that call anytime soon. There's always the minutemen. (Sarcasm) Go talk to your local police department. |
