They couldn't. A sportbike would outrun one in a heartbeat. However you start getting into twists and turns and you better be a damn good rider. |

They have a radio, you don't. |

Cops have a name for motorcyclists who run away from police cars in a pursuit: they call them "organ donors." |

most police cars cannot keep up with motorycles, and when riders run for whatever reason, they usually get away for the moment. however, police usually run plates on motorcycles when pulling them over, and get their information before they have a chance to run. so although they may get away for a few moments, they can most likely be expecting a visit or phone call shortly after if the officer feels like pursuing the issue, and he usually will! |

Growing up, we had an expression: You can outrun the officer, but you can't outrun his radio. |

Out running cop cars with a fast bike is easy. Out racing their Motorola is the hard part. |

The Police's greatest strenght isn't their speed, it's their radio. They don't have to keep up with a Ducati, because they can just have the road closed ahead of him. |

Well, law enforcement uses technology to maintain pursuit. THe way they keep up is usually utilizing a radio and assistance from other law enforcement officers in their own department or adjacent departments.
High speed pursuits are getting to be more and more unacceptable due to collateral losses to innocent citizens. |

As everyone else has mentioned...basically no they can't keep up but no you wouldn't get away. You're thinking of an arrow-straight quarter mile and car chases aren't drag races my friend. 10 seconds for a quarter mile is pretty quick for a bike too, stop watching so many Fast & Furious movies. A good friend of mine is a racer (track, not street) and he just put in cold fusion nitrous to get to the 10 second on a 1/4 mile. Cops have intelligence, training in car chase scenerios (seriously), cars obviously handle better at high speeds than bikes do, helicopters, and radios. You're S.O.L. if you're trying to outrun a cop, especially on a bike. It's a nice thought though. |

Sure. You could outrun the cars, but there are 2 things you can't outrun...
Bell JetRanger
and
Motorola. |

you cant out run a helicoptor |

Wow!

Police cars are limited in top speed i believe somewhere in around 140mph. Even if thats the case, They will simply call up ahead and so on till the person slows down and or use spikes. If going that fast they should be aloud to shot the tires out and let the car go out of control but you know the Criminal Liberties Union would complain about the nuts rights. |

I watched one that could do 135 mph top speed and kept zipping through the city. The police couldent keep up with them but they had a helicopter follow him and he eventually ran out of gas from zipping from low speeds to top speed. Motorcycles are faster than what the police are fielding, but it is really suicidal to run from the police... Especially on a unprotected bike. I have seen countless chases of bikes being overtaken and having the driver either bumped off or having him take a nasty spill. |

Depends what city you're in, if you're in NYC then the police's Dodge Chargers can run laps around your sport motorcycle. But if you're like in Atlanta, your motorcycle will zoom past their Victorias easily |

If the dept. has a helicopter, then there is very little chance of someone getting away, no matter what they've got. More and more departments are gaining access to helicopters too, which is good because these crooks who run deserve what they've got coming to them. |

That is part of the reason why motorcycles have speed limiters and police have motorcycles. |

They wouldn't have to keep up. In no time flat the bike will be on it's side sliding. Criminals are a lot easier to catch when they are maimed. |

Hahahaha. Hell no. We had a guy blow by about 5 police cars the other day. He was doing 150mph at least. We just wait for the call to go clean his *** up off the pavement...sidewalk...tree(s)....car(s).... |

I dont think a police car could catch an experienced rider on a motor bike. Being a rider myself I know exactly the capabilities of my bike (suzuki 1000 gxsr). Its really fast out the gate and if you cant catch me within the first two gears, you probably wont. however, an experienced officer on a cycle cruiser will more than likely run you down and hand you a nice fat ticket (at the least). |

I enjoy watching Cops and I believe if the situation required it they have several options such as: a helicopter to keep up with the vehicle, radio to cars in the area to capture the person or put down the spike strip. I really don't believe the person would get away. |

Wait till Evel wrecks...you can't ride faster than a radio. |

they will get the kawasaki or the BMW 1200 to get you the cars will not try. they will get you ahead down the road where a CHP or bike police is waiting. The radio ahead |

Try to keep him in there site, radio for back up.. Try Helicopter surveillance. You couldn't spike strip him, at those speeds, he would be toast if he wrecked.. Try something to slow him down, then through out the spike strips... It sounded good... haaa haaa Only in the movies.. |

doesn't matter a bike with a good rider can out run just about anything.cops, swat, ems,a crack head needing a fix, ect. |

Yeah instead of the police officer hurting their own ego they decide to keep up the chase. No matter how many people they put in danger.
What they should do is let it go if things start to get bad. But nooooooo, not super cop. He will keep up the chase and then blaim all the innocent people that got killed on the motocycle guy. |
