In the TV show cops, why are most of the criminals black or some other minority?

Gosh, I really wonder if it is because of the fact that they commit the most crimes. Could be. Your type can find bias where ever you look. And you only have to look in a mirror. Now what are you going to do, LaVon, report me? OOOOh I am so hurt.

Depends on where the show is meant to represent, New York City, South Central LA. If statistics are correct, most gangs are black and Hispanics, and most of your white collar and child molesters are white.
But I also know it is meant for entertainment and do not take it seriously, because if that was the case I would never use public transit.

You go fishing where there are fish. A lot of the crime in a city occurs in poor neighborhoods, where most of the residents are minorities (or white trash). It's not that they are singled out, but a cop can roll through the trailer park or the ghetto and be sure to find something really quickly. It's much harder to catch a businessman snorting coke in his office.

Im a minority and I agree. It's ashame that mainly minorites actually do the crimes because of those minorities that have no sense, us good ones have to be judged the same!!

Not only are they the 1's committing the crimes out there today, the show needs to get the cameras where something will happen.........hence the poor areas where the minorities live. When white people are getting arrested on Cops, they are usually filming somewhere near a trailer park.

I think its more about geography than race. The Racial mix of most major inner cities is Black or Hispanic. Detroit for instance, is 80 percent black. I think they tape in the inner cities more because there is more action there. Not much excitement out on highway 12 with sherriff goober!

I think that there's many races and genders represented on BOTH sides in almost every cop show. I don't think that any race or gender is portrayed excessively one way or another.

they just are. i hope it's because they are given less oppurtunities than other people so they turn to crime. i don't really see how being a criminal could be in their genes. Also, there are many more white people in America than black people so the percentage of black people committing crimes is actually a lot higher than it appears when comparing the poopulation to the whole. I don't have anything against black people one of my best friends is black and a hell of a lot smarter than I am. It just so happens that I walked up on a black man trying to steal my mom's car, two black guys broke into my house, and a black guy stole my bicycle. But my brother is a career criminal and he's white so take everything I say with a grain of salt. I just call it how i see it.

actually here. i thought it was odd that they were almost always poor white people. Struck me odd that they actually put alot of white people on cops. do they show different shows in different cities?

The better question should have been, is the show representing the stupid, ignorant people for ratings. On that question, I say yes.

wow...do ya think maybe it's because.....they're the ones committing the crimes? Although I watch the show, too, and I see plenty of white people committing crimes as well. I wish people would get off this "it's because I'm a minority" crap. If you don't want to get arrested here's a tip....don't commit a crime!!!

I watch the program--and I have never noticed this. I do not pay any attention to color or race. You must be more of a racist than I am. If this is true, maybe there is where the highest crime rates are--wherever they film their shows.

These try to be as realistic as possible and hell look around you, who commits the crimes any way, blacks, or other minorities. Look at prison populations and don't say it is the white mans way of keeping them down. Do the crime and do the time.

Cops is produced by very right-wing producers, who are racists.

The show is aimed at sketchy conservative viewers who are also racists.

It's simply targeting the audience.

BTW - most convicts are NOT minorities. It's exactly what shows like Cops are designed to make you think.

@ bettysdad Nearly half of all convicts are black males, who come in at just under 7 % of the population. Throw in hispanic crime, and most convicts are definitely minorities. Convictions and arrests statistically mirror the reports of crime victims and witnesses. These are not reasons to discriminate against individuals, but they are statistical facts about self-identified groups, and no they aren't politically correct.

I heard a quote from the one in charge of what races to put on the show. He wanted to make the black race look better, so he said that even though there are far more blacks to choose from among the arrests he can (or does?) film, he on purpose shows far fewer blacks than he can and shows a lot more whites than a fair sampling would dictate. I believe there is reverse discrimination that makes the white race look worse than it really is acting (proportionately).
