In the UK, are the rights of minority groups more important than the rights of the majority?

The law should be equal to all, no mater what colour religion etc. you belong too. Unfortunately, this country has seen fit to introduce many new laws to protect only certain small groups of people, to the detriment of the majority.

For example. A white youth assaults a black youth. This is classed a a racially motivated incident, and carries a higher penalty in court.

A black youth assaults a white youth. This is just an ordinary offence, and is dealt with under laws that have been in existence for years. Only normal penalties are applied.

Ideally rights are the same for all citizens. But there are unwritten laws. A government is very conscious while dealing with minorities for fear of alienation. It is these minority votes which tilt the balance in elections. UK was once proud of its benevolent policies towards minorities and those seeking political asylum. Today after train bombings and current plot to blow up airplanes mid air the the politicians, law-enforcing agencies and the public at large must be ruing why at all they created a situation so bad where their own citizens are plotting to destroy the country. I quite agree with your point that majority community at times feels they are most neglected or taken for granted with a matter of fact approach towards their problems.We also feel the same way in our country(India). Time alone provides solutions to all intractable problems. The mounting tensions due to terrorist activities Will force governments to review their policies and kid-gloves approach towards minorities will definitely change with tough laws coming in to force.

I can see your point. We are so busy trying to make minority group feel more secure we are forgetting about the majority. I'm not saying we shouldn't consider others, but we should be looking out for ourselves as well.

those organisations bacame necesarry in the UK bcuz it's a pretty segregated society... I read in a poll not long ago that the UK came out as the most racist society in Europe... I dunno what to think about all that... but from all the encounters i've had with Brits it seems that aside from those who live in London... they have a real problem accepting immigrants...

All the real discrimination of modern times is against white people and the western civilazation they built. I don't care what people call me for saying this or if they threaten me, it's the truth. And I will not afraid to stand up and boldy say the truth, weither some people like it or not.
