In this day and age would you become involved if you saw someone being attacked in the street?

It's easy to say yes on YA but deep down would you?

The PC brigade have certianly ensured that you would be prosecuted for hurting the crimminal. After all he, according to them he is societies real victim......

I would like to think I would be man enough to get involved, but would I.....would you?

i would think twice.

I am in peak physical condition and would have little trouble taking down a dozen or so Teddy Boys with my Zimmer frame.

(I have attached 4000 fish-hooks to it and of course they would all grab it and would not be able to let go. I would then poke them with my walking stick that is, in fact, a 20,000 volt Tesla coil - a sort of grown-up's Taser, only it's lethal.)

It's a sick country that we live in just now...recently we had a young lad on the street beating and kicking his girlfriend out at the front of the house..plenty of us watched it happen but no one intervened for fear of been prosecuted ourselves...even when the police arrested him they came round to take statements regarding the arrest and if we thought they used unnecessary force...i am ashamed to say no i wouldn't get involved these days it's not worth it

It's something that a great many people would think twice about these days. I went to help a man who had fallen over in the street last week. So many people walked passed the poor soul and none would help me get this man to his feet. In the end I had to prop him up against the wall until help came.

I'm afraid many people would not help with fear of what might happen to them and can you blame them. However, it will always be the case that whilst some won't help the majority will go to the aid of someone in trouble. It's what we humans do is help one another and usually without thinking about the consequences.

I would phone for help, but that's about it. If you become involved you could either be killed, seriously hurt, or as you point out prosecuted. What a terrible state of affairs when people won't help other people for fear of being prosecuted.

something strange
Depends on the situation. If it was just two guys fighting, probably not. If it was a man beating a woman, you bet your @ss I would get involved, damn the consequences.

blink
no because in reality u would probably end up being stabbed too

Only by phoning the fuzz on my mobile phone - 999.

If I got involved at my age 66, I would quickly be thrown to the ground and stamped on.

I ain't taking no risks.

If I see two grown men fighting in the street, I figure it's their business and sooner or later the top dog will win. I might wonder why they don't settle their dispute somewhere in a boxing ring like gentlemen, but will just leave it at that.

Two people fighting ....No....two or more on one....yes.

I'd automatically help......instinct.....and selfishness....I'd want someone to help my loved one if they were in trouble.

Only if I was fit enough, strong enough, could fight like Tyson and had the confidence to beat the **** out of anyone. However, I am not a film star like Stalone and perhaps it would be advisable to get on my mobile immediately. On the other hand if it was my daughter or my wife who was being attacked could I hold back. I suspect that if I had any weapon at my disposal I would use it to disable or kill an opponent and defend my actions in Court. I believe no one should wade in to an unfair fight without some protection.

Caroline
I would like to, but in reality I would probably be too scared of getting hurt, or like you say, getting the blame, however I would definitely call the police.

Only by telephoning for help and providing first aid for the victim, once it was safe to do so.

Yes - depending on the nature of the Violence being witnessed. The public around the incident . I would make an effort to write Notes about every detail possible of The incident..while phoning the emergency services,(Just to ensure they know) .

vdv_desantnik
it depends. If it was a nonce being attacked by the parents of a child he / she had molested, then no. If it was a pensioner being attacked by a group of chavs, then yes. If it was a chav being kneecapped by the local vigilantes for housebreaking, then no. If it was a woman being attacked by a rapist then yes, if you get my drift about it depending

I think it's more of an instinct whether someone physically gets involved or not, more than a conscious decision. But the very least most people would do, is to contact the police and seek assistance. The horror stories on the news of 'heroes' stepping in to help, only to be beaten or stabbed to death is always in my mind, but as out-numbered as you might be, if an elderly lady or gentleman was being attacked in front of you, it would be immensely difficult to just walk away.

honestly i would have to think of my own safety 1st i would call the police and give a statement if needed but for my own protection i don't think i would physically get involved.

We all would like to say yes, but we really dont know till it happens. Its best to help if you can do so safely.

Don't think i could just walk on by, it would depend on the situation tho i think, i just hope i never have to find out.

D B
i would immediately phone the police giving as much detail as possible about what I was witnessing (actually thinking about it that is exactly what I did a few years ago) and giving a running commentary describing in detail the people who were involved. Unless someone was at risk of serious physical injury I would not physically step in. Always start by stating your name and location and your position in relation to the perpetrators (In my case I gave my address and said that the incident was happening exactly opposite my house on the other side of the road and it involved knives and described as much as I could about the physical appearance of the men involved and what they were wearing - the police arrived within 2 minutes.) In the case of the incident you have referred to I can honestly say I would have gone over and dragged the guy away - have done something similar before - after making that phone call . Incidentally i am a 5'2" female and I would love to know why I have got a thumbs down for my answer.

I would most likely get involved and try to stop the criminal. It really depends on the situation.

On two occasions I have been in a position where I have been attacked in my car in broad daylight and within view of several people. On both occasions I screamed and hooted my horn but no help was forthcoming. I was completely ignored.

Because of this, I vowed that I would always try to help in any such situation even if only by dialling 999. I would not put myself in danger though.

I would like to think I had the courage. I once saw a man in a grocery store beating the woman with him in the face. I went to the manager of the store and asked him to call the police. He couldn't have cared less.

Bloke Ala Sarcasm
I'd call the police and ambulance first, just incase the victim needs it. Then I'd run up behind the guy and spear him in the lower back.

IF I had made the decision to help.

Its one of those all in or all out situations. You cant half half it. If you're going to help, you have to get stuck in.
To me, shouting "Oi! Leave 'em alone!" can be translated by these people as "Please, attack me next!".

geoff_2934
Have done before now, but i wouldn't mind betting you would find yourself in the **** for it - wanna form a vigilante group?

If i thought i stood a chance against them then yeah id like to think i would. Then again you never know till it happens. I would defo phone the police though if nothing else.

Throwing Stones
If the situation was obvious as to who was victim and who was attacker....yes I would have to do what I could to stop the attack.

It would depend on the situation,Ive intervened when Ive had a drink on me and sometimes unwittingly have inflamed the situation by going in heavy handed, but when sober i worry about sticking my neck out and leaving my little boy without a dad.

Mr. Goodhi
I'd call the police & if I was the victim I have a CCW. One shot, they go down.

If it was someone from a minority I would help them mutilate the racist piece of scum and if necessary, help them kill the vermin family the abuser comes from.

If it was a white majority thing, I would assume the so called victim was deserving of the treatment and stand around laughing while they were beaten to a pulp.

How does it feel?
