A thorough investigation would include verifying the informant's information through another source, or developing it yourself. You don't want your whole case to be based on an informant. |

If he or she is a consummate informant, a paid snitch i honestly don't think a judge would allow their information to be used as evidence. I've known plenty of people like that who were paid informants, i wouldn't trust them if they said my house was on fire. A judge should ask to look at their criminal history to determine for themselves if they can use their evidence. Say 10 arrests and no charges brought forward i would toss their evidence out. |

Not necessarily, but it would be included with everything else as part of the investigation. It wouldn't be used as evidence in court. |
