Inmate info and booking number?

It's been well more than a week that a friend of mine has lost his trial and got sentenced to 200 days. I've been trying to look up his booking number but it's still not showing up. (Only his old booking number, which he had gotten out on bail before his trial, comes up whenever I type in his name.) Could it be possible that he still hasn't gotten booked yet? He attempts to collect-call me from "The Los Angeles County Jail System", wherever that is... so I know that he's definitely in there somewhere. I'm wondering, what could be the possible reasons for his current information to not show up in the LASD (Los Angeles Sheriff's Dept.) system. Even if he's got some kind of a "hold" wouldn't his new booking number still show up? Thanks for the help.
Additional Details
When I went to go deposit some money into his old booking number, the deputy told me that the person does not exist. In other words, he was release on bail and now should have a new booking number when he got sentenced at his trial.

Although most Sheriff websites are updated daily,there are lapses sometimes.The better thing to do would be to go to that county's website or go there in person and search the criminal record division.All Court info is public record,unless a Judge orders otherwise.If You know the County where he is located try that website and type in his name and age.Good Luck

That facility is obviously a very large one, and there could be a multitude of reasons for the booking number not showing up.

Of course, it is also likely that his old booking number is still his booking number; he was only released on bail, not out of the system or anything like that. See, if he hadn't been bailed out, he'd have kept the number; that's most likely what's happening.
