a citizen arrest allows you to walk over to the person breaking the law and telling them they are under arrest and they have to wait there till the police come.

you are not allowed to use any force in making the arrest.

And in most states it would only apply to felony crimes.

If you ever used force to make your arrest and they were not found guilty ( which most people arrested are not found guilty)
Then you can be sued for false arrest and false imprisionment.
Police officers acting under the color of law can't be sued, but people doing a citizen arrest can be sued

i am just curious as to who ask these moronic questions, how old are you and if soemone told you that you could do it, would you really believe it was okay.
One more thing next time you see a bunch of people attacking someone or another person is in trouble and you have to actually risk your life,( not get yelled at or get scratched but actually be put in a situation where you could really die), to help someone, let me know if you do it!

Even with the old law of citizens arrest, you were not allowed to detain the person I don't think. You could simply tell them that you were making a citizens arrest and then call the police.

I would have to read up on it in much more detail though, it's been years since I've even seen someone bring that up :)

umm, no, you cannot shoot anyone!!!!!! even if it is a cop doing the wrong thing. As a police officer, he is is an officer of the court and it's his job to carry a gun whilst on duty, but your not, so if you shoot him, then enjoy being Big Bubba's butt monkey in jail for whatever time your sentenced. And you can put them under citizen's arrest but you can't touch them physically at all because then your done for assault, pointless I know, but thems the laws of the land.

I doubt any self respecting police officer would give up his gun to a civilian. If he/she saw a gun they'd shoot first and then talk. I'd study more grammar and spelling if I were you instead of screwing around on a computer.

No. Absolutely not. "Citizens arrest" does not apply to ordinary citizens arresting someone they see doing somthing. The offender must be declared by the state to be a criminal at large.
