Not everyone wants to have guns.

However those who wish to have guns in The United States of America are guaranteed the right to own guns by the second amendment to The Constitution of the United States of America.

Requiring that every adult citizen have a gun is no better than denying law abiding adult citizens the right to own and carry a gun.

The answer is not in either extreme! The best answer would be to allow those adult citizens with no violent crime convictions or dangerous mental disease or defect the ability to carry a weapon if they want to.

The right to keep and bear arms is a right, not a requirement, not a privilege!

Those who are responsible and not a danger to innocent people should definitely be able to arm themselves if they wish. What would you rather have when someone is forcing their way into your home or trying to harm you- knowledge with a gun ar a phone to wait at least 5 minutes for police to come clean up the crime scene? Think about it. Have a nice day!

Yes it is. Criminals will always have guns and the rest need to have one for their own protection. For one thing it seems crime is escalating more than ever. I for one will do anything to protect my family, myself, and my property even if it means using lethal means.

- The numbers of yahoo's (pun not intended) that shoot first and ask questions later, or

- the number of families that have weapons in the house that kids find and kill themselves

- the number of legally owned guns that are STOLEN and used in crimes which kill other people

and ask yourself if it is really worth it to be able to have a gun?

How can the pro-gun crowd justify and accept those kinds of losses?

Simply put, yes. It should be a requirement that people own guns to protect their families, neighbors and communities. The Swiss keep assault rifles in their homes. It is their duty as part of the common defense. It may be the reason the Nazis never attacked them.

The knowledge that most Americans own guns has also been cited as a reason why no enemy of the USA has ever dared to wage a ground war here.

If you look at the facts, crime is down dramatically since more people are carrying guns. It turns out that criminals are afraid of being shot. Imagine that!

All that said, nobody will ever be able to prevent these mass murder rampages totally, but the more good people that are armed, the better the chance of stopping them before they claim so many victims. Notice that most of the recent ones have occurred in schools and on college campuses. These places are off limits to guns in most states. The maniacs know they have nothing to worry about there. Some call these places "pistol free zones". "Victim rich zones" would be a better name for them.

Not everyone.
People who are proven to be mentally ill, have a violent history, or are just plain stupid and irresponsible shouldn't be allowed to have guns. I'm fairly certain this is something most people on both sides of the political spectrum agree on.

I think 99% of gun owners are responsible - they are trained in gun use & safety, they keep their guns out of kids' reach, and they teach their children how to properly handle and - more importantly - RESPECT guns.

However, there is just no way to prevent stupid (not to mention drunk, violent, unstable, etc.) people from getting guns. It seems like at least once a week you hear about something like this:

Until we can figure out how to keep stupid people (like the father of those two boys) from getting firearms, I think we need much stricter gun control laws.

It's NOT fair to responsible gun owners, and I understand why they're against it, but there are simply too many kids dying.
