Is gettting a DUI considered being convicted of a crime?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is gettting a DUI considered being convicted of a crime?

And if so, is it any potential job application's business?

Teekno
Yes, and yes.

A DUI shows an extreme lack of good judgment, and most employers want people with good judgment. And if the job involves driving, it's entirely possible that the employers insurance company won't allow them to employ someone with a DUI on their record.

A DUI says to an employer that the applicant was more concerned about the drink in their hand than the lives of everyone on the road.

As soon as you get convicted of DUI, you're convicted of a crime. And yes, any potential employer can perform a criminal background check which would show the DUI conviction.

Kathy
Yes drunk driving is a crime. Your arrest and conviction info is public record and anybody, including a potential employer may access it.

Yes and if they request a release of your information for their background purposes then yes.

DUI is a criminal offense and not a traffic infraction.

You are required to disclose the DUI if the job application specifically asks for such information. How long ago did this happen? You can get the DUI expunged (removed) from you record and answer no to such questions in job applications except for licensure applications (ie. doctors, lawyers)

YES and YES

I am not in law enforcement, but I believe that DUI conviction is a crime, but not a felony. Unless of course there was an accident involved with major harm to another or a fatality. I don't think you would need to put that on a job application if it was not a felony conviction. That would be of major concern to the place hiring. But, you can probably check it out with your state's employment office for the correct information.

Copgirl
Um, YES of course! DUI is no joke.

DUI is a crime and should be disclosed on an application. It should hurt you unless you're going to be driving a company vehicle.

Ok, getting one as in recieving the ciatation, or just being pulled over... if you recieve the ciatation and go to court and plead guilty, or found guilty then yes... (no contest I believe is considered not actually, but it's a little complicated)...

Now, is that something for a job application, no... because they normally ask if you've commited a fellony, and a DUI normally isnt' considered a fellony arrest... Though, if it just says have you been arrested, then yes, technically you have been arrested...

Im most states it is. In NJ, for example, it is not. It may be of consequence to an employer for many reasons. If you need to drive for your employer, insurance rates may be higher. If you have an alcohol problem, they may want to discuss that with you prior to hiring you or during the tenure of your employment.

I don't about the crux of your question. But I DO know this: a DUI, no matter how what the degree of infraction is, is NOTHING to play around with, looking for answers on Yahoo to solve. None of your answerers are going to come by the jailhouse to see you or bail you out after they've given you thier half-baked opinion/ experience/ advice. Know what I mean?

Stop messing around, and get some REAL legal advice. There are plenty of lawyers that have FREE consulutations about DUI matters, so you don't have to pay. And even if you find someone who you do have to pay, the consultation usually doesn't cost that much, anyway.

In either case, it's better that jail time and a jacked-up life, don't you think? Get some legitimate legal advice.
