if the answer is deliberately malicious then yes, if it is a little harmless fun then no...surely people expect some people to answer commically and not serious all the time, as long as you are not insensitive...

Everybody thought I was just being sarcastic with my questions, and in some cases I was.But the answerer's I got changed my way of thinking.
Ask away.

I'm OK with it if it makes the asker feel a bit better, eg if they're obviously upset about something, a light hearted comment may sheer them up. However I don't like the derogatory statements that just hurt people.

I like adding humor to my responses, but only when the right opportunity presents itself. If someone is asking about a serious ailment they might have, then it isn't the best idea to be snarky. But dumb questions, have a field day!

Is this a serious question?

well... ...its not 'dishonest shallow and wicked' to answer a serious question in a stupid irrelevant slightly annoying yet somewhat humorous way, unless you know it is a stupid irrelevent slightly annoying yet somewhat humorous answer, and you know the answer has made you feel 'dishonest shallow and wicked'.

It all depends: the litmus test is how many people respond positively to your question as against how many bend you out of shape. If you ask an intelligent question intelligently, chances are that people will either respond intelligently or they will pass. Most people, even if they do not agree with your hypothesis, if your presentation is logical and well stated, they will respect that. This is an educational exercise, that is why only 2 points are allocated for answering a question. You can't eat the points or redeem them--simply, clean, healthy, no-stress fun.

Sometimes it's hard to tell whether a question is serious or not. I answered one the other day in what I hoped was a humorous way because I didn't think it was serious, but when I looked at the answers later I realised it had been! I felt really bad. Then other times, I've written a serious answer and found the 'best answer' awarded to a really silly reply! You just can't always tell. I wouldn't want to give offence, though - sorry if I have, guys!

The ones who completely miss the joke and answer seriously make me laugh just as much. But it's a different kind of laugh. They can't be compared, really. Like peanut butter and vegemite. Which, curiously enough, go quite well together.
