It is said that even defacing an image of the Queen, e.g. felt tipping a beard on her face on a banknote, is illegal, but I don't believe that there really is a law that you could be prosecuted under, and if there is I doubt a court would enforce it. |

It is against the law in the UK to deface or burn a Sterling bank note. This is because the note is actually a promisory note from the Governor of the bank to pay the bearer the amount on it. As such the note remains the property of the bank. |

Hell, Our Congress ( US ) burns our money every day.
They call it earmarks.
We call it corruption but it's the same thing.
It is illegal to physically burn US currency in the US without the proper procedures of the Treasury Department.
The same probably holds true in the Uk since , if you burned currency, the Government has no way of knowing how much money is in circulation. |
