Is it illegal to flick off a cop?

Yes. The US Supreme Court has ruled words and gestures intended to provoke are not covered under the First Amendment.

The landmark case on this is Chaplinski v. New Hampshire. Chaplinski was convicted of disorderly conduct, and the US Supreme Court upheld the conviction.

If it is just you and the officer, it is quite likely he will just ignore it. Most officers have a high tolerance for immature acts, and most courts expect them to. However, if there are any witnesses, especially children or elderly, you can be arrested.

Could be a violation of the law or a local ordinance depending where you are at. There are several laws in my area that cover this very intelligent display of bad manners.

I usually ask them if they are telling me their IQ or the last grade they completed in school. Either one is a good guess.

ya dont do it...you'll get in trouble

its called
section 5: public order

swearing in the streets is illegal, i don't think they can (or will) Just arrest you the second you say it, but they normally warn you first, if its done again, they can arrest you

Wolfmoon

It can be you can get a citation for harassment or for disruptive behavior, you can also get arrested for cursing at a cop.

Waiting2Die44
i don't think so. but they will probably find something to arrest/fine/get you in sh*t for.

defense wins games
technically no, there isnt, but there are numerous other things they will give u a ticket for doing this

the most common example is that if u do flick/flip them the bird they will charge u with disorderly conduct.

Scarlet2611
that's flip off. and its harassment so yes.

Bacharach
you mean push them off their bike? no

Anna C
yes because if you flick off a cop u could spend some great amount of years in jail or prison. I wouldn't recomend doing it but if u do ill be the one laughing when u get arrested.
