If I want to park my car in a store parking lot such as a shopping center for Walmart or any other parking lot, can my car be towed if there are no signs posted? Is there a law either protecting myself or the parking lot owners?

I guess you mean that you are parking your car in their lot, but not shopping at their store. These are private parking lots and even without a posted sign, if you leave your car for an extended period, then the owners can assume the car is abandoned and have you towed. As to how long you could get away with it would depend on how observant the cart guy or security are. |

You can park there as long as your not parked in a no parking area. It is considered private property and they govern their own rules. If you park in a lined parking space, you should have no problem. |

If there are signs posted that say parking for customers only, and you are not a customer, you can be towed. If it is after hours and you leave your vehicle there, you can be towed if the signs state no parking or loitering. A manager can have your car towed if they see you get out of your car and go into another business, and not their's. I own a towing company, we get many calls from a half way house that is right next door to a club. Patrons park their cars at the half way house and walk over to the club. The manager on duty, observes these individuals and then calls us to tow them. Be cautious as to where you park, look for signs, ask someone!! |
