In defence of Caitlin, tasers have killed a number of people in the past. Those with weak hearts are particularly vulnerable.

Furthermore, if you do not know how to handle the weapon DO NOT USE IT!

It depends upon your state law and you've not stated which state you reside in.

Currently, in my own state it is not illegal, however, that is soon to be changed.

Steven P
Jan,

I'd like to answer three issues that your question has addressed:

1. Self Defense:

Self Protection and the need to protect oneself is one of the most basic human rights. The right to self protection is rooted in basic common law as a right all free peoples have.

The govt. should not dictate to you HOW you can protect yourself when they can not protect you 24 hrs a day (which they can't). Court precedent has been set, stating that the government police have no DUTY OR REQUIREMENT to protect you.

The ability, method and ultimate decision a person makes to protect themselves is something only they can decide.

Defensive weapons ARE made to hurt... they are made to STOP bad people from doing bad things to good people when there is no else there to help or protect them.

With the level of technology that we have today, instant checks are done on firearm purchasers at the point of sale, much the same way your credit card is charged or a credit check is run. This is how the government is now keeping those restricted from purchasing a firearm from getting them through conventional means. TASER also uses this technology to do a background check on everyone who purchases a TASER from them.

Most states currently concider the TASER to be a Stun Gun device and unless they are specificly restricted as a TASER they fall under Stun Device. You can see states that restrict Stun Devices here: http://www.pps-safety.com/stungunlaws.htm but you should always check to ensure your state hasn't updated these laws.

2. How to use the TASER:

When you recieved your TASER you should have recieved a DVD with it that gives you a 30 minute class on how to use your TASER. I would highly recommend that you watch the DVD and buy an extra cartridge or two and practice with it so you know what to expect if you ever have to use it.

When you TASER someone you lay the TASER down and run away. It will continue to sent current to the attacker to allow you time. TASER will replace your lost device free of charge is you supply them with a Police report.

You will not accidentally TASER yourself, trust me on this. If you were to do that it would only last a few seconds and you would recover.

3. How a TASER works

People who have died when TASERed did not die from the TASER but rather the STRESS of the situation. In other words, they most likely would have died the same way if they were involved in an auto accident or other stressfull event.

The Taser works on your bodies electrical system, it overrides the normal electrical activity that the brain uses to tell your muscles how to move, by basically shorting it out. This is why when a person is hit with it, they can't move and just freeze. You loose control of your muscle movement. It can NOT be "fought through".

Unlike a stun gun, which works on your muscle group. the stun gun basically caused your muscles to "twitch" at an extremely high rate of speed, therefor causing an enormous lactic acid build up in a short period of time. This is why you felt as if you just worked out for a day straight when you are hit with it.

both are low amperage devices, that is why people are not electrocuted.

You might notice that on videos, when someone has a stun gun used on them, they recover slowly. They are exhausted and their muscles are tired. When you see them recover from a taser, they are able to recover much faster, due to the fact that they regain control of their electrical system.

A Civilian taser (C2 or M18)is good to 15 feet (a police model is 25 feet), can be purchased with a laser for accurate targeting and is quickly reload-able.

In the civilian model, When the probes make contact, the taser discharges electricity in bursts for 30 seconds, short bursts keep your attacker down, allowing you to set it down and make your escape. The police are able to send charges out again and again, in order to control the target.

You have to register your Taser with Taser International and get an activation code when you purchase it. When a taser is discharge it drops small paper tags so that the police can identify who's taser it was, if it needed to be determined if the TASER was used illigally.

The probes do not have to make contact with targets skin, they can be within a couple of inches and the electrical charge will arc to the target. This is why you can use it through heavy cloths.

If one or both of the probes miss the target you can use the TASER as a conventional stun gun and make contact with the target and get the same effect.

In most states you need a concealed weapon permit to carry around any type of gun, including a taser gun.

If you just ordered it but have no idea how to use it, PLEASE get some proper training before you try to do anything with it.

Actually, some municipalities forbid taser guns except when you are a sworn police officer or security official.

So best bet is to find out the laws in your city or state before trying these weapons.

Well, if the laws in your municipality allow you to "carry-conceal" a taser gun if you are not a sworn police officer or security official, here are the best bets to avoid civil lawsuits especially for wrongful death when you use these guns.....

1. Best to hit the taser gun dart in the leg. Assailants often wear less clothing or no clothing especially in the calf area.

2. Another best bet is to hit the dart in the arm.

3. Try to stay away from the chest area. The chest area contains the heart, so that means a shock from the dart close to the area could mean not only electrocution...but also electrocution-related cardiac arrest on the assailant which could mean certain death for the assailant. If you must hit the chest area, use the good-old rule in "self-defense and the law"....don't shoot the dart at the chest unless the assailant is holding a deadly weapon close enough to threaten your life immediately....especially guns. This is true also if you cannot assume the gun is for real and trying to interpret the fake gun could also cost you your life. Also, if the assailant is using a stabbing weapon, you have the right to shoot at the chest especially if he could throw the weapon at you with imminent danger to your life. In all other matters, you can evade the stabbing weapon without firing the dart in the chest if you are strong enough to do it.

If you accidentially get tasered, best bet is to go to the emergency room of the hospital especially if you get tasered in the chest. The heart could be involved and the heart could stop by the shock and you could pass out into a heart attack. For other areas, still go to the hospital but you will likely have the place bandaged like any other electrical burn for about 4-6 weeks.

if you tase people you will be charged with attempted murder. unless they have a gun to your head

false, people have died from tasers.
