Is it legal?

is it legal to carry a pocket(small) knife - for self defense. i've seen people `carry flick knives. how can u determine if its legal or not. also mine is like a flick knife with blades tht come out on two ends. its not to hurt anyone and it would always b concealed and i would not play with it.

There are regulations in some areas that knives under a certain length may be carried concealed, and that knives of other lengths may be carried openly in sheaths, and some areas allow switchblade-type or double-bladed knives, and others prohibit them.

You'll need to do some local research.

Either that, or just avoid getting busted.

Depends on what state you live in. Here is a guide:

Don't bring a knife to a gunfight

Get yourself a CCW permit and a pistol

Gunner
Usually a 3 inch blade, total length 6 inches is allowed. Check your local ordinance. Flicks and switchblades are a no no. Get a 3 inch lockback and learn to use it.

It Depends Where You Stay. Here In Texas, The Blade Can't be Longer Than 5 And Half Inches. And It Can't Be Altered In Any Way, Shape, Or Form.

the concealed part is kinda the problem , if you carry a knife on your person " concealed" that is carrying a concealed weapon and you would get yourself into trouble. Pocketknives are ok but there is a certain length they have to be and by description your knife sounds like carrying it could get you into trouble. Check with your local law enforcement agency!

Depends on the state you live in....Usually anything double edged or over 6inchs is illegal!

You need to check your state statutes. Every state is different. I've lived in states where you could carry a pocket knife under 4 inches concealed, and other states that didn't specify a size. Some states won't allow a spring loaded knife, double edged knives, etc. Just do a search for your state, look up statutes about carrying concealed weapons.

Not familiar with the term "flick knife." ... Are we talking about a knife that deploys the blade with a "flick of the wrist?" This might be a "gravity knife" and illegal in some jurisdictions! "Butterfly" knives (where the blade is exposed by a split in the handle, often "flicked" or "spun" open) are also illegal in many jurisdictions!

You do not need the advice of a bunch of "yahoos" on Yahoo (I include myself in this group!) ... you need the advice of a competent lawyer (which I am not!) that practices in your jurisdiction! If you can afford one, talk to a lawyer, do not depend on the internet for sound legal advice (even from me!), if you can't afford a lawyer ... hit up free legal counsel that knows the laws in your area ... like legal aid, the public defender's office, or a police officer that you trust (make it a hypothetical situation ... as in "if a guy were to be in possession of a knife where the blade is exposed by "flicking his wrist" and the blade "popped out" ... would that guy be breaking the law?"

gogogirl
Yes, to the best of my knowledge it is legal to carry something like that. However, NOT ON A PLANE. If you are getting on a plane you have to remember to leave it at home.

Legality of a pocket knife differs from state to state. folding knives are usually Ok but can still be considered a concealed weapon. Blade length plays apart as well. Any local Police Officer should be able to tell you the state law just ask. I like the ones that clip on your pocket. the top sticks out enough so it wouldn't be considered as concealed. Don't brig a knife to a gun fight.

Jack knife maybe but anything like a butterfly or switch blade knife is illegal. Hunting knife you can carry, but don't go into clubs, airports, police stations, anything where there will be functions and where there will be law enforcement and security officers are or you'll lose them to them.

You don't say what State you are in and it varies quite a bit by state. In Illinois, the blade length must be less then 3".

California Street Cop
In CA, USA....
18+, go ahead.

Folders in your pocket are fine.

If its a fixed blade, keep it in a sheath on your belt. Make sure none of it is concealed. This includes any item you can stab someone with. (screwdriver, chisel, file, etc...)

Gravity, flick, switch...Illegal. Do not possess, not even in your home.

Only switch blades are illegal. So if flick=switch then it is illegal. But maybe they are different. You could always ask a police officer. I mean not when you are getting arrested but like if you know one I am sure they could help you out. I know police who love to answer those questions and they actually joke about it a lot.

peace
over the world its illegal, because you don't know what you'll do when you are angry with it.

yea i think

Usually, if it is more than 4 finger lengths it is illegal. It is different in every state but that's the basic rule.
