You didn't try to get some assistance from them, did you? |

Is it really dim witted? Or maybe they are smart enough to sense the sarcasm in your civil questions.
Also, how can someone be smart enough to be sarcastic if they are dim witted? |

Dim-witted? Had a drink, have you, sir? |

It is you... They probably just hate you. I can see why. |

well, if your question was presented in the same manner as this question, insulting and based on invalid premises, then I think you could expect a less than polite response. |

No more so than the wanna-be Johnny Cochran's out there when you tell them your problem is civil and not criminal and they want to argue about it.
I'm sorry was I being dim-witted? |

We react to those on their own level. |

It's you. Lawyers get paid a lot of money to answer civil questions. Police are usually only trained in criminal law, not civil law. We are trained to protect and serve, not offer free legal advice on subjects that have little or nothing to do with our jobs. I know that this answer is "dim witted" and sarcastic, but hey, I'm a cop, I can't help it. |

I've been dealing with cops in lots of states for many years. I even train some departments in hand to hand combat. Most cops, I've not encountered the type of behavior you cite.
Unfortunately, I said MOST cops. I've certainly encountered a few that spew nothing but sarcasm, play as stupid as possible, and have a nasty outlook on life, society, and people. Some have even been promoted to Chief of Police.
Cops are no different than other people. You'll always find better ones and worse ones. Problem is, it's not for ME (or any other citizen, for that matter) to determine which cops are 'good' and which ones are 'bad'. However, it IS up their departments and co-workers to weed out the few that tarnish the reputation, and they've been somewhat lax about doing so. |

I think you'll find it depends on what you're asking, if you're asking a daft question you'll most likely get a daft answer, for example, when approaching a police car blocking your lane, with an accident in view behind the police car, asking the accompanying police officer if the road is closed may prompt a slightly sarcastic answer. If you're question along those lines, ie where whatever it is you're asking is obvious, then can you really expect much less? |

Cops aren't lawyers, and they aren't bastions of knowledge. To give a comitted answer to a question that could potentially get them into trouble is something that you will never see. If anyone asks me a question the best I will do is offer to find out and ring them. |

You do not need to be particularly bright to be a police officer so they are probably just being their normal selves. Don't expect anything from them and you won't be too disappointed. |

No its not you,i live next door to one he spends most of the day at home with other police officers eating bacon butties or sunbathing in the garden like they did last year, come and live here with me you would laugh your pants off at what goes on. |

No, it's not you. These boys in blue are not very bright to begin with. They know very little about the law except for
what the strormtroopers in charge tell them to know! Don't ask a cop anything! |

Depends what the question was. They have always been polite to me if not overly bright. |
