I was reading about a case recently in which someone was arrested and the police automatically sealed the arrest warrant, and had it sealed for 14 days. I'm not well verse in the law when it comes to stuff like this. I thought it sounded kind of sketchy...like the police didn't want anyone to find something out. Is this normal, or did the police act out of line?

You are asking two different things.
Yes, it is normal for a police officer to seal evidence in order to prevent tampering between the crime scene and the court.
A warrant is not evidence. And referring to sealing an arrest warrant means that the information about the charges are to be kept from the general public.
The police do not normally give out information about arrests to the general public. This is not out of line, but in fact is standard procedure. It protects the person being arrested from criticism should the case be dropped. |
