Is it okay for a cop to sit one street and pull people over all day long?
|
There's a cop outside my house right now... usually it's two of them though, and they do it relentlessly nearly everyday. He's had go have given out at least *TEN* tickets within this hour alone, and he's still got about 15 minutes left... I can hear him pulling somebody over as I type this so that's 11!!! lol Is that okay though??? It seems like power abuse or something. Additional Details *12 people now

It sounds like he has found a street where the drivers have no respect for the law. Maybe if writes enough tickets the drivers will learn to obey the traffic laws. Hope he or she keeps up the good luck. |

If the cop has a specific reason to be there then yes he can. From the information you have given where he as pulled over eleven people in a one hour period, it would seem that he has a specific reason to be there. If you feel that he is there for some other purpose then call the police department and complain. It would however appear that for what ever reason there are a lot of people that are speeding through your area, and he's doing his job to stop them. Imagine if you had kids and one of them got hit by a speeding car...you may not feel as bad that he was there trying to get people to slow down. |

It's his job, not abuse of power. Someone on your street probably called and complained about violations and there's probably an officer assigned to do just what that officer is doing. |

If you were fishing in a boat on a lake, and you stayed in one spot and you were catching plenty of fish all day, would you move the boat and go fish somewhere else? Or would you stay in one place until you caught all the fish you wanted?
It sounds like your local cops have found their new favorite fishing hole, so to speak. |

How would that be abuse of power? Part of his job is to pull over and give tickets to people who violate the traffic laws. Why would him doing his job be wrong? |

That's his job. Pulling people over for speeding and siting them for it. It is all perspective though, because if you had lost a dear friend or family member to a speeding vehicle you would be bringing him coffee and donuts. |

Abuse of power? How? Because he is pulling over people who are violating the traffic laws? Sounds like he is doing his job....and doing it well. |

There used to be this cop car that used to be stationed inside my Aunts housing complex (like in the bushes) and he would get people for speeding all the time. Some people even knew he was there looking for something and they still got caught. lol I don't think it's power abuse as long as they're pulling people over for a valid reason. Like going over the speed limit or whatever. |

It's not OK, but sadly is legal.
To all the people saying that's his job: It's a strippers/ho's job to get naked, lay down with people and spread nasty sh*t... Is that ok because 'it's her job" too?
Just cuz it's someone's job, doesn't mean they aint effin people's life's up by giving all these tickets and cr@p
...Yeah I know... thumbs down coming. |

Sure it's legal. If violations are being committed, they need to be writing citations.
I'd be happy as hell if traffic officers would work traffic in front of my house.
What are you whining about..... |

Oh, like someone in the neighborhood, has not complained about speeding cars, doing 40 mph in a 25 mph residential zone?
See they are not always at Donut & Coffee shops. |

Yes, it is OK for an officer to do that.
This type of action usually takes place after there are numerous complaints about speeders in a certain area. The department will send an officer in response to these complaints. The officer will sit in plain sight and ticket offenders for several days. Word gets around that the police are working that area and people start slowing down as they go through there.
The speeders are in control of how long the officer stays on that post! Which is worse for you ... having the speeders race through your area or having the officer sit out there? |

No the police can only pull someone over if they suspect something bad is going to happen otherwise this is just using the law for no reason. |
