Is it pathetic?

Why on earth do people just come on here to have a go at the police?
Instead of hiding behind the computer come and have a go whilst we are work. You would find that we will talk to you and most of us are quite articulate.
Id just like you to think what the world would be like without us, even the most hardened criminals who loathe us are the first to ring for help when they get assaulted or robbed.
I would also say that 90% of the people who come on here to abuse the police have been arrested at some stage or were issued a speeding ticket when they werent speeding (right!)
And please check your grammer or spelling before posting a reply as the standard of english on here is terrible.
Should really have paid attention at school, but you were too busy bunking off, and no I wasnt bullied at school, there was no one big enough to do it.

I agree with you. My boyfriend is incarcerated right now and he may have his opinions, but so far, the police and staff have been very courteous, respectful and sometimes even merciful to me. I treat them with utmost respect as well. It goes both ways.

I use this category to ask questions about our situation instead of calling the staff at the jail and pestering them. I have had many helpful answers from police officers and appreciate them.

Try reading Ceefax Letters on the BBC text for bad grammar, not to mention small-minded opinions concerning the Police. It's amazing how many people that never spent a day in uniform feel they have the right and the knowledge to criticise...

I do agree totally with what you say. I belive that the public should support the police.
A little more support may help get more convictions.

Its not so much the Police, as some of the crap laws they have to act on. Having said that, I have come across a load of Police who tend to consider that the general public are dubious at best. Its a thankless job, but thank god someone wants to do it.

I totally agree with your comments. Yahoo! Answers is often used by certain elements of society to attack political institutions, governments, and those things that are generally percieved as negative in our modern society.

We have to remember that the majority of the people in the Uk are about as politically active as cold rice. They have no notion whatsoever of the importance of challenging government action, so they do it on here. I'm not saying give them a break, its quite the opposite, we should challenge their views every step of the way too. It is only through challenging their mocking of the Police, Immigration, and Multiculturalism and so forth, that we can effectively shoot their arguments down.

If they all put down the Daily Mail, picked up History book (and a Politics, Foreign Affairs, and, as you noted, a grammar book) their eyes would open to the world we live in, and their answers would at the end of the day be at least somewhat logical.

Bill Hicks was right.

What you say is largely right. It's unfortunate you didn't use the spell-check; the misspelling of grammar was a schoolboy error.

It's unfortunate too that there are a few policemen around who let down the rest of your profession. But, on the whole, as you say, society could not function without the police.

I agree, they complain as they break the law and do not want to be responsible for their own actions..

I'm not going to take you to task for your grammar or spelling, the others have done that quite thoroughly (and rudely). I really do wish people would lighten up a bit and support the police more. If it were easy, everyone would do it.

People used to give me guff for being a Soldier (and before anyone questions the validity of capitalizing the word, look up the Army regulation that states that it is appropriate to do so). For some reason, it was assumed that because I chose a life in military service, I must have had no other options. Believe me, I had plenty.

My hat is off to the police officers of the world, wherever they may be. Keep up the good work.

Green is the new RED!
I am with you Ed! I am a Police Dispatcher & 911 call Operator.

People who dislike law enforcement probably are criminals who just can't seem to understand why they should be arrested for breaking the law.

I would guess that the people who get on here and go at the police are criminals like you have written. I support the PD. However, I would have to say I have known a few Cops who thought they were above the law themselves and had that attitude of being holier than thou.

We the public you SERVE will show you support and respect when you give it to us.

Respect is earned not assumed. Get off Your Authoritarian horse and come back down to earth. Many times i been to chat with the bill either in conversation or for a matter of concern. What i get back as a whole is contempt for the public.

Learn to be a decent human being , Do your job correctly and show the public proper respect kindness and attention to your duty and we will return it in kind.

Until then just stay off here wasting our time with your ineffective dribble

I agree with you 100%... All the people on here talking crap about police officers will be the first one to call on them when they are in trouble... I have grown up in a law enforcement family and i know first hand how you get treated when you are an officer... they want to have nothing to do with you and talk crap about you and try and start rumors about you to make you lose your jobs because they dont like you... well i have news for all of you law enforcement haters out there... if you werent breaking the law then you wouldnt be getting caught... there is a reason that you hate law enforcement... Grow up and stop blaming the law enforcement for all of your mistakes... when people drink and drive its always the officers fault that they got caught... well NEWS FLASH its your fault for drinking and driving... you could have killed someone that night... they saved your life and theirs...
SO EVERYONE NEEDS TO QUIT BASHING THE COPS BECAUSE WHETHER YOU WANT TO ADMIT IT OR NOT YOU HAVE NEEDED THEM IN THE PAST OR YOU WILL AT SOME POINT NEED THEM IN THE FUTURE....

if I may quote bob dylan ( his grammer not mine )
if your looking to get silly you brtter go back to from where you came

Most people who slate the police on Yahoo answers are happy to sit at their keyboards and have a faceless whinge and rant.

Ask them to do it in person and they will undoubtedly shy away.

Most of the rubbish they spout is generalisations, with little or no evidence to back it up.

STAND2 is the worst offender.

I think it's pathetic to pick on anyone so yes I agree, Police are just doing a job they don't set the rules they just carry them out.

I don't think most people hate the police, they hate the job, and they hate the fact that the person who has chosen to do the job is a mechanism of the state.

The state uses the police to enforce what alot of people see as unfair laws. When the police dole out fines to speeding drivers, many believe the government is just hyping up the evidence that speeding causes the majority of accidents, which it doesn't, to fill their coffers. Whoever was gathering those stealth taxes would be universally disliked.

I don't think there are many who would argue that the police mostly keep order on the street, what gets to people is the petty minded officers who seem to have an authoritarian personality.

I think the argument in your question was let down by the fact that you had a dig at peoples grammar and spelling, it doesn't matter, as Y/A is about an exchange of ideas rather than who has the best English. You also hinted that you are a physically big person, as nobody could bully you at school, respect has to be earned, you can't threaten people into liking you.

gtx765
Well sometimes people need someone to blame and sometimes others use their occupation to define their whole life. i see your point and have fellow alumni fraternity brothers who are police and FBI. We live different lifestyles and we still have equal respect. I think law enforcement has a sub culture that most do not understand. My only gripe is some officers that i know are sadists. Anyone who enjoys making others suffer due to their position or occupation should not in that position.

"And please check your grammer or spelling before posting a reply as the standard of english on here is terrible."

Grammar has an a in it; not an e. English should be capitalized. Logically, "or" should be changed to "and."

"Should really have paid attention at school," Perhaps you should have as well. That's a sentence fragment.

You're hurting more than helping your cause by posting this. I've yet to have a go at the police on here, despite my objection to a lot of the laws that they enforce. You must remember: They're just doing their job by enforcing the laws. They didn't make them.

Because the people on here having a go at the Police are (a) ignorant - generalising about *all* Police officers; and (b) stupid because at some point or another they're going to end up needing the police when a crime is committed against them. You will find that most people who are stupid enough to rant against the police are criminals or potential criminals with no mind of their own. "I'm anti-authority" - antisocial and unintelligent, more to the point.

Ouch! But your right.

Succesive Governments have driven a wedge between the Police and the Public.

Basically society would be amuch better place if the public supported the police by reporting crimes and wrong doers.

The police have a dreadful 27% clear up rate for offences and show greart apathy towards the public.

People who denounce the police do so because the police hinder them in committing crime and degenerating society into their ideal. The same people turn to the police at times of emergency-its called hypocrisy, and the majority are of low intelligence, educational achievement and social status. They move in peer groups also sub normal.

If the police and the public realized they are both on the same side and worked together society would be a better, stronger, more prosperous and pallatable place.

Which of course is the last thing our Government want!

I have always respected law enforcement until recently when I was arrested. It was the most awful experience but the worst part was after I read the police report - it was fraught with lies. When I pointed it out to my attorney, he told me that the police always lie. I said nothing at the time but that statement really stuck with me. After talking to regular people - not gang members, etc. - I have learned that this is a widespread problem. I now believe that we (law enforcement) are manufacturing criminals. No wonder why our courts and jails are bogged down and overcrowded.

A little background - I was driving in downtown Houston and stopped at a red light. A police officer pulled up next to me and I turned my head towards him and smiled. Then I thought to myself that I could take a right on red, so I did. That is when he came after me. Took me in for dwi...I should have blown (afterwards found I would have been about a .04 from the computer websites) but always have heard not to and I wasn't offered a blood test.

My parents and a friend saw the video and they can't believe they are trying to prosecute this case - first thing my friend said to me was that I wasn't even tipsy. I have spent $20,000.00 so far and I can not wait until my case is heard in January, 2008.

More background - I am a blond female who was driving a new Cadillac. I am Republican, a young 45 years old and very involved in the community. I have never responded to any blog, chat, etc. I really don't think I fit the stereotype. If this can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.

I certainly don't want a lawless society, but how about playing on an even field...no lies! I don't care if the officer thinks the person is a criminal or not - if it is not true, it is a lie. Isn't that one of the first things our mothers taught us?

As a cop myself, I like all these people. It's nothing but job security for me.

I completely agree with your post. Most people go through a rebellious stage at some point in their lives and as some people show, they never seem to grow up. Police go to work every day and never know what is going to happen, get assaulted on a daily basis and we know that nothing will really come of it as a result. Whatever they do is wrong and can never please everyone.

I think on the whole most people support the Police and don't feel the need to speak out, whereas the ones who rebel / have a grudge for whatever reason, do speak out.

I would love the Police to strike and then these people who post negative comments about them to be a victim of crime and then have no one to turn to. I was always brought up with respect for the Police and think they do a tough job.

Admittedly you get the wrong people in all professions, whether it be doctors, teachers, or police, but 'grown up' people speak about police as though they are 12 years old.

I have much respect for the Police here in the UK and think they do a thankless job, but it is appreciated and it would be chaos if they weren't around. It's time a lot of people grew up I think.
