Is it possible to be friends with a police officer?

I hope so.......My wife married one! One thing that makes friendships difficult isn't the Deputy, But the "friends" that challenge his integrety, The guys that "need a favor" nudge - nudge, wink - wink. Hey, were friends and all, But If you expect me to give you a ride home instead of jail because YOU decided to drive drunk, NOT MY PROBLEM,.....And NO I will not talk to Deputy So and So about your Son's ticket.....He obviously earned it.
In the LE community, All you have sometimes is your honor and integrity..A true friend will never ask for a "favor"

Yes, a good majority of them are good people. The bads ones you read about in the papers give the good ones a bad rap.

I suppose it would depend on which country you reside in.However,given the many reports worldwide of police corruption,my answer would be NO!Unless the entire membership was beyond reproach,and any police officer/s who breached any laws were imprisoned.

It is, but they are pretty tight knit group. Here's the deal, they are prohibited from associating with anyone of "questionable moral character". And, if they are somewhere, say a party, and there are drugs present, they are required to act. This would make it hard to truly be "off duty". That is why they tend to all hang out together.

I am friends with many cops. But, I am a Juvenile Detention Superintendent, and kind of fall under the same requirements. Because of that, you are very picky about who you associate with.

I don't see why not. But it could make his or her job more difficult if you expect favors from them. Don't break the law and give them reasons to test the friendship.

of course, I mean they're humans too. In fact we should befriend them and talk about some moral issues with them. I even had a drinking session with one and he was OK in some relevant issues we discussed. I just made sure he left his gun at home.

yup it sure is, some are actaully rather cool, or that migth be because the one i know lives down my road
but yeah they are people so it is possible

Well, I've been a police officer for 33 years and have many friends. I do try to pick friends who won't embarrass me , and who like me for the person I am, I avoid those who expects special favors-I don't expect that anyone will give me something for nothing or betray their employers for me, and anyone who is my friend won't ask me to.

Of course ! I am sure we all hv seen it all...in Hollywood Movies..a ordinary girl accidently witnessed a murder or robbery. She went to the cop and gradually fell in love with the police officer .One thing leads to another and happy ending!
