Yes.

CA vehicle code 21200.5:

It is unlawful for any person to ride a bicycle upon a highway while under the influence of
an alcoholic beverage or any drug, or under the combined influence of an alcoholic beverage and any drug.

CA vehicle code 21050:

Every person riding or driving an animal upon a highway has all of the rights and is subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle...

I think the horse might just get away with being drunk and riding a bike :-)

you can be pulled over for walking around on the streets drunk ,so it doesn't matter who or what you're riding

sexxymexxy926
yes, you are the operator of the vehicle, regardless of what the vehicle is.

The Prez.
It probably depends on local and state laws, every jurisdiction is different.

mutaali t
My great uncle was - when riding a bike. When he gave his real name, as opposed to his nickname, the police were convinced he was drunk. I think his mother had to sort it out.

Yes on a public road all the laws come from the horse and carriage days....but in a field no, though depends on what your doing with the horse!!!

A local guy got nailed for DUI while driving his lawn tractor along the side of the road. Not sure if these laws applies to non-motorized rides or not though.

robynbiker

Bill S

Yes, you can be done for being "drunk in charge".

stand@btinternet.com

Yes, PI public intoxication

Bedmechanic
There was a case of a bloke being done by the law for being drunk in charge of a lawn mower he was driving.

Ea5i
Yes on both counts in the UK. Though I cant find any account of anyone being arrested for being drunk in charge of a horse. If you go for it, please make sure youre not too pi**ed to make sure the horse is safe. And let your local TV/radio station know...it would make a great news piece!

Veritas
Yes! and Yes, even the horse.

Emma O
Yes it goes against the highway code, as you are in charge of a moving vehicle...a bicycle is considered a mode of transport and therefore included in the highway code.

The Highway Code stated that:
You must not ride (a bicycle) when under the influence of drink or drugs.
Law RTA 1988 sects 24, 26, 28, 29 & 30 as amended by RTA 1991

It is legal to ride a horse while drunk, but seeings as though a horse has a mind of its own I wouldn't attempt riding one while drunk, unless you like your local A&E Dept.

(I must point out this in in the UK only)

phil6081
yes, it's drunk in charge of a carriage

Yes.
Ohio Revised Code sect 4511.19(A)(1) No person shall operate any vehicle, streetcar, or trackless trolley within this state, if, at the time of the operation, any of the following apply:
(a) The person is under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse, or a combination of them.

The definition of a vehicle would include a bicycle.

Section 4511.05: Persons riding or driving animals upon roadways
Every person riding, driving, or leading an animal upon a roadway is subject to sections 4511.01 to 4511.78, inclusive, 4511.99 [penalties], and 4513.01 to 4513.37, inclusive, of the Revised Code, applicable to the driver of the vehicle, except those provisions of such sections which by their nature are inapplicable.

So THAT'S how you'd be in trouble for Riding a horse intoxicated, or a bicycle. Also, you might get a public intox.

michael k
Yes,in the UK,'drunk in charge'.

Yes for sure! they are both moving violations and technically a bicycle and a horse are both controlled by the riders. Heck, my brother was once arrested in NJ for drunking walking, I kid you NOT!

You can get a dui in just about any case senario. I know someone who got a ticket while riding his lawn mower. That's the truth and it happened in Louisiana. You can also get one while riding a horse.

Yeah, I think its called public intoxication. And you can be drunk and just walking and be cited for that. Also, if you are riding a horse and are drunk, you could possibily, not 100% sure, but might be charged with cruelity to animals if you aren't being careful while riding.
