Is it safe to allow someone with a permit to carry a firearm in a "gun free zone"?

Or to not allow any and always have the lurking chance of a criminal to come in looking for blood. Additional Details Think of school shootings that have taken place throughout history. What if one of the teachers or school employess had had a 'permit to carry' and was armed. They could have defended themselves and saved the lives of many dead people.

First off the whole permit idea is a load of ****. Why should I have to ask the government for permission to carry a weapon to protect myself and others? The 2nd admendment says I can carry what I want, where I want, how I want. The government is our slave. Second gun free zones are defenseless zones. Crimanals know they won't get shot there and you are more likely to be killed there than a shooting range. Third open carry is best because if a punk thinks he'll get shot he won't attack you. Fourth pay no attention to those signs. They are against the highest law in the land... the constatution. If it violates your rights then you shouldn't get arrested for breaking a law made in violation for the constatution. |

It is unreasonable to not have protection against criminals; but, a civil court would award the trespasser with malicious intent a seven figure verdict. Your nation belongs to the social liberals. |

Less than 1/10th of 1% off concealed weapons permits have EVER been revoked for ANY reason. Most of those were revoked for reasons unrelated to weapons. Given that FACT, you have a better chance of dying as a result of a plane landing in your house that from a CHL holder carrying ANYWHERE. |

Let's face it, an armed society is a polite society. You can designate an area a "gun free zone" wherever you'd like but criminals (people who don't care about and frequently break the laws) will continue to carry weapons despite your name for a specified area. Furthermore, criminals know that law-abiding citizens do follow the laws of the land and will not be armed in these areas.
If any of the students attending class during the Virginia Tech massacre had been lawfully carrying, by permit of course, perhaps the perpetrator, Seung-Hui Cho, who killed 32 people and wounded many others, could've been stopped or slowed down in his trail of destruction.
As a permit holder, one must pass a thorough background investigation as well as be proficient with a firearm. Furthermore, permit holders can not be felons, have any previous convictions of violent crimes, or history of mental illness. By design, these permit holders are generally level-headed people who have clean records and are in good standing with law enforcement. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that these are the good guys.
So, to answer your question, I'd say that it is perfectly safe to allow someone with a state issued permit to carry a concealed weapon in gun free zones. |

I'd assume so, as long as you mean police etc. But if you mean like a hunter or something, I'd say no. |

If people are allowed to carry guns in the area, then the area is no longer a "gun free zone". So it's not safe or unsafe; it's impossible. I think in general people should be permitted to carry guns in public places, but I can understand certain areas, like elementary schools for example, being "gun free zones".
Edit:
To your additional details, schools should employ police officers who would be armed and could protect the students in case of an emergency. I just meant that some random person shouldn't be allowed to walk into an elementary school with a gun. |

Gun free means gun free. If you carry in that zone then you are the criminal. Your permit will go away. |
