Normal people go to a gun store and fill out the background checks and need to be registered.

Criminals illegaly purcahse guns on the street that were smuggled into the country or stolen.

Tougher laws just make it more difficult for normal people to buy guns.

Yes. I followed the law and waited twelve days to buy a sixty year old bolt-action rifle in CA. I could have walked a mile and bought an uzi off of a drug dealer. Or a saturday night special. Criminals love the tiny little piece of **** guns.

This is called being a "straw purchaser". It's most commonly seen with a "bad guy" who sends his girl friend into a gun store to legally purchase a gun. After she takes possession of the weapon, guess who actually has the gun? She is what's referred to in the law enforcement community as a straw purchaser. In PA, due to the high rate of gun violence, straw purchaser's have been getting sentenced under federal guidelines to as much as 10 years in jail.

Most guns that are illegally possessed are either stolen, or purchased through a straw purchaser.
