Is it true warrants go away after so many years? Hmm... does anyone know well I do!!! ?

Yes warrants do go away! I read that someone had asked the same question. Well, I turned myself in and if I would have waited one more month my warrant would of been dismissed!!! Thanks alot for your advice people!!!! HUH!!
Additional Details
First hand let me explain what the warant was for. Accessory after the fact burglury/theft. Messed up charge!!! I knew after the police told me! "*****" They threw that on me because the case file they left at my house all of a sudden disappeared?? Anyways, when I turned myself in which would of been 5 years in NOVEMBER!!! The guy that processed me told me if I had waited one more month the warant would have been dismissed. My balibondsman who got me out told me more likely they will dismiss the case anyways because its been so long ago. So, if ya wanna be a smartass about the whole thing make sure you have your info right!! WARANTS DO GO AWAY AFTER 5 YEARS IN THE STATE OF TN. Now I dont know about a felony chrage because mine is a misdemeanor. I jsut wanted to let some people know this because someone asked the question about warants.

Warrants do go away. No, there is not a statute of limitations on them. They do not expire after a pre-determined period. But computers are not all-powerful, databases are not limitless, and most importantly, people who keep the records make mistakes.

Mainly, after a few years, warrants for minor offenses fall off the end as new warrants are issued. Especially since felony warrants need to stay active, although even those sometimes fall off the list. I have had a number of warrants that have never been taken care of, and I've been stopped for traffic violations, had my record run, and nothing came of it since they were so old.

If it's any consolation in your case, your warrant may have dropped in one more month, but it may not have dropped for another year, and you'd have been terrifically inconvenienced with a sudden arrest for a simple traffic stop, along with your car being impounded for being left on the road. It's a flip of the coin; if you feel lucky, go for it. Or take control of the situation and minimize the damage, as you did.

Why would you ask a question if you already knew the answer?

Warrants might be dismissed, but left alone, the warrant would not expire, and statutes of limitations don't apply to warrants. In fact, warrants are issued in order to avoid statutes of limitations. In some cases, Judges will even issue a warrant for a person with a certain DNA profile, just to be able to avoid any statutes of limitation that might expire before a suspect is even identified by name.

Also, warrants aren't usually dismissed.

In any case, you are responsible for your own actions and decisions; both the action that got you the warrant, and the decision to turn yourself in. Only a judge would know if/when a warrant will be dismissed.

NO Warrants are forever.........Statute of limitations only apply before charges are filed

I'm pretty sure warrants dont go away. I was in Michigan for the weekend and I got stopped for a suspended license and speeding 15 over. I asked the officer what if I ripped the ticket what would happen.. He said just dont come back to Michigan because you'll have a warrant for your arrest.

As long as I dont go back to the state of Michigan I'll be fine but the warrant will never go away (unless I take care of the tickets).

it would still be considered evaiding the police,or hiding from them.It makes you look better in court.

it depends on the crime you're wanted for. statutes of limitations only extend so far.

You turned yourself in. Mission accomplished. Obviously you did something to earn that warrant. Chalk another up for the justice system. Word of advice: when you really need to know the answer to a question, do not use a web forum as your only source of information. You got what you paid for.

Its all depending on what crime you did. they will issue a warrant out to look for you. but if its a small issue they can dismiss the warrant but even if the warrant has been dismissed if you get caught by the police or arrested its down on your record that the warrant was issued but it got dismissed and you can still be charged for that offense.

if it is a warrant out for a serious matter they wont dismiss it.

there are "statutes of limitations" to many charges and warrants. it depends on the charge(s), the time and date of the warrant being issued. and the states specific on the time involved. be certain by asking your states attorney generals offices for accurate information. be certain not sorry !. never rely on anyones oppinions. digg !!!

Your warrants dismiss after awhile, but while you wait your warrant fine adds up. If you leave the state it adds up. If they run your license then you will be caught anyway, so cut down the driving.
