The internet has certainly aided these sick people, it gives them a degree of anonymity and they can easily trade and swap their vile material.

They existed anyway, so we can't lay the blame on the net. I dont think its made them more catchable, it gives them more opportunities to do what they do, which in turn gives police more opportunities to catch them, but this would be the case if they were using a different method, its a law of averages.

It makes sharing disgusting photos, videos, and other materials much easier. It also helps them prey on children that use the Internet. Yes they have always been the shadows but this gives them a easier access.
As for the lurking ones - the most offenders are not strangers who lurk on the Internet looking for children, they are your friends and family. There is only a small percentage of stranger assaults.

As for detection. It's hard to follow the trail of the millions of pictures/videos/etc on the Internet. Also it is hard to stop the makers of the pictures/videos/etc and identify the victims.

Everybody thinks that the Internet gives them security to do what they want. However the opposite is the truth, you cannot do anything without having to go through at least two government run computer monitoring systems. These systems originally where set up to look for key words and phrases however they now have the ability to trend the profile of the person using the Internet.
Big brother is with us now and all those perverts out there need to watch out.

I think the internet is the best invention ever! People that criticise it must see it as being one, single, "thing". That's like criticising, "the media" or, "movies"....oh yeah people do that too.

You can find absolutely anything on the internet. There is even a site where you can get directions to build an atomic bomb, information on how to fly a plane, reserve a seat on a plane, and even flight plans. Where do you think that the guys that did 9/11 got there info? Off the internet. All they have to do is have access and there the info is for the taking. I think that there should be some sort of code in order to access these things and then the terrorist would not be able to obtain the needed info. Over and above all of this, I think the internet is one of the most us-full tools available today.

I've said it before and i'll say it again, not enough is done to keep these vile things in prison and away from children. Sarahs Law should be in full swing without hesitation, yet our wimpy government are more concerned about the feelings of these disgusting things than the safety of the future generation. Something is soo soo wrong. They come out of prison, go underground and sit in their homes (probably paid for by us) masterminding ways to meet children. On line is obviously the perfect way.
