Is the gun ban in England effective?
|
I'm just wondering. Additional Details almost all the answers I've gotten are opinion. I'm looking for statistics. The one answer that said crime rose 50 percent wasn't helpful because the website link was total b.s. It said England had the highest crime rate in the world, when the deffintenly do not.

It is very effective, it keeps honest people from defending themselves.
Of course the criminals don't mind the ban or any other laws. |

"Expecting a carjacker or rapist or drug pusher to care that his possession or use of a gun is unlawful is like expecting a terrorist to care that his car bomb is taking up two parking spaces."
That the whole free people of any nation ought to be exercised to arms, not only the example of our ancestors, as appears by the acts of parliament made in both kingdoms to that purpose, and that of the wisest governments among the ancients; but the advantage of choosing out of great numbers, seems clearly to demonstrate. For in countries where husbandry, trade, manufactures, and other mechanical arts are carried on, even in time of war, the impediments of men are so many and so various, that unless the whole people be exercised, no considerable numbers of men can be drawn out, without disturbing those employments, which are the vitals of the political body. Besides, that upon great defeats, and under extreme calamities, from which no government was ever exempted, every nation stands in need of all the people, as the ancients sometimes did of their slaves. And I cannot see why arms should be denied to any man who is not a slave, since they are the only true badges of liberty; and ought never, but in times of utmost necessity, to be put into the hands of mercenaries or slaves: neither can I understand why any man that has arms should not be taught the use of them.
Arms are the only true badge of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of a free man from a slave.

Gun ban's no matter where they are restrict the rights of the citizens.
When governments pass laws that are not popular among the general population and the people start to show they are not happy the government will work harder to restrict their rights to own or possess firearms.
We must remember that Freedom is a government that fears the people. Tyranny is when the people fear their government.
Those friends who I have that live in England are not happy with the gun restrictions that have been imposed on them.
With Guns we are citizens, without them we are subjects. |

"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... such laws serve rather to encourage than to prevent homocides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." -Thomas Jefferson |
