Is there a point to applying for both the local Sheriff's department and local police department?

Is there a point to applying for both the local Sheriff's department and local police department?

I have my eye on a specifi part of the country where I want to live, and I want to work in law enforcement. So, I'd like to know, would applying to both the Sheriff's department and police department increase my chances of being able to work there?

My first thought is that if one doesn't hire me, then the other might, so my chances of working there would be greater.

On the other hand, I'm wondering if it might be the case that the two work closely together and that if one doesn't hire me, the other probably wouldn't either.

I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts you have!

Applying for more than one agency is common. There is no disadvantage, unless you expressed a desire for another agency during the interview.

Each department can have a distinctly different hiring process, so being turned down by one agency should not affect your chances of getting hired by the other.

Yes. They are different agencies and it would double your chances. Even if the two agencies work closely together the application and interview process would be different between the two.

Good Luck.

Yes. Applying for jobs at two places gives you 2x the chance to be hired.
